Business Founders, Not Technical
All three founders are business guys, not technical guys, and our idea is a technical idea. We planned on using some of the money provided to hire a coder for the 10 week period. Does this seem like a good idea or would this work against us?

Inappropriate?I wouldn't let it keep you from applying, but I would strongly encourage you to try and find a technical co-founder (or two). I'd be happy to help you meet some people (this is the second situation like this that has come in).
I was talking to Brad Feld from TechStars about this, and he said that in his experience if you have more business people than technical people on a small team, there just isn't enough for the biz guys to do while the tech guys are building the product.
I'd think long and hard about what each of you is contributing. Do you really need 3 business focused co-founders? In a small startup, each person needs to be essential. Could you survive with only 2 of the 3 founders?
I’m optimistic that you could find a technical co-founder

Inappropriate? We believe that for our situation, having all three business founders present would be in our best interest, and then use some of the money provided to hire a coder for that period. That being said, we also believe that this is an amazing opportunity and if not having a technical founder would result in us not being selected for the program, that's not something we would want. If that is the case, we would be willing to have one founder stay behind and have you introduce us to someone that would be right for our situation. How would we go about you introducing us to some people?

Inappropriate?Every situation is different so I can't comment on your specific situation without knowing any of the details. But from a pure economics perspective, you're a much stronger team with technical people on it as well as business people. If you get low on cash and don't have any technical cofounders, everything stops.
I created another GS page for connecting business cofounders with technical cofounders. We've had a few respond over Twitter already and I'll be directing them here: http://gsfn.us/t/403b
You might want to post your contact info there and see if you can meet anyone who complements you well.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I also recommend Refresh Austin, Tech Happy Hour, Austin on Rails, etc. - great events, you'll learn something and you'll meet a lot of wicked-smart techie types. I don't believe any have meetings before the deadline, but Refresh and AoR both have "jobs" mailing lists that may yield a receptive partner.
I’m loving Austin's tech community
