Carbonite deletes files no longer on your hard drive after 30 days
Carbonite will delete files no longer on your hard drive after 30 days... which means that you cannot store data on their servers to save space on your hard drive. Incredibly disappointed (having just subscribed for $54.95)
I guess Carbonite intends to simply provide a mirror image of your hard drive, not help you back up files to save space.
If you think they should allow this, please email their CEO at david.friend@carbonite.com and ask them to add file storage to their service!

Inappropriate? You are right that Carbonite retains copies of the files you have deleted from your PC for 30 days before removing them from your backup. The process of retaining those files indefinitely is called archiving and Carbonite today does not provide that service though we are reviewing archiving as a future offer. Generally speaking for those wishing to archive large amounts of data, the best approach is to use an external hard drive which can make needed copies for backup very quickly otherwise just keep those files on your PC and they will be backed up by Carbonite.
