Different characteristic for different colors
It would be interesting to see different color cells interact with each other differently. Perhaps if different colors had different "life" rules. It could really change the dynamic of the game.

Inappropriate?Great idea! There are many variations on the basic rules. Some work fairly well. I'll explore a few and see how it ends up looking. Note that one feature we're adding is the ability to change the life rules across the board, but I like your concept of giving different life form types different colors!
