Why can't the front page be designed like the Nation/World page?
Why can't the front page be designed like the Nation/World page?
Make the top part local news, and the rest of the page with simple sections and story links with as many stories as possible? Leave the right side for all of your ads but do not make the fly outs or cover half the page. All of the green title bars and multiple clicks to see more stories will only push people away because you are hiding the top stories with the current page.
News is important for people and they will come back often, but trying to be fancy and cute does not cut it. People will not click multiple section bars, they want it right in front of them, simple and easy. And put the time the page was updated, and Breaking News bar where is belongs, at the top.
Just because the Tribune staff likes the way it looks does not mean the readers will, and a lot of feedback is saying that. And the second you reply with a web page link you have lost that person for good. Listen to your readers, they are your customers.
One last thing, people would not leave replies and feedback if they did not care. A better feedback system would help too.

Hi Julie: We try to include the top national and world stories among the headlines in our main headline section. For example, we currently have stories about a suicide bombing in Kabul and the GOP and health care debate among those headlines. We also have a nation/world page devoted to these issues. You can reach rolling over the news tab in the main navigation bar.

Inappropriate?I just checked you sister web site, http://www.orlandosentinel.com/ which was 'updated' a couple months ago with the same poor design, and what do I see, their Breaking News banner is at the top of the page!!! It looks soo nice there, no need to scroll down and try to 'find' it.
So if you are looking for some indication as to how moving the Breaking News banner would look and feel, look no further. -
Inappropriate?Hi Dan: Thanks for the feedback. The front page has to serve many different uses for different people so it ends up looking different to nation/world, which has a focused set of goals and an audience looking for very specific content. In terms of the location of the breaking news bar, there is a discussion going on about the issue here: http://getsatisfaction.com/chicago_tr...

Inappropriate? Please insert a nation/world/international section in the main page. It brings some legitimacy to the paper, plus, there are some people who still want interntational/national news from their local paper.

But that's exactly the problem... we want the information up front, not buried on another page! Your suggestion that "You can reach rolling over the news tab in the main navigation bar" is exactly what we hate about the new format. You are a newspaper... put the news up front for us. -
Inappropriate?Where is the national and international news on the homepage??!??

Inappropriate? We want the news up front where we can easily find it without having to search rollover tabs and multiple pages. But their response is "We also have a nation/world page devoted to these issues. You can reach rolling over the news tab in the main navigation bar." Don't you guys get it... the customers want all the information to be easy to find and accessible to read from one location, we don't want to click all over the place. Also, the new format is quite cluttered which makes searching the stories that are on the fron page very difficult (plus, there are only three or four featured stories under each tab, whereas I'd like to be able to at least see the rest of the headlines for articles that are within each of those sections).
I’m aggravated
