i see that i can assign contact and tag-based access to different content, but how does this work? how does chi.mp authenticate these users?

Right now there is no easy way to do it. You'd have to log in and then go to the other owner's secure URL (which is the one that starts with chi.mp/s/ . We had automatic login for a while but we pulled it out since it diluted the domain ownership aspect of your site. Now we need to find a middle ground, which we plan on doing in one of the upcoming releases.
Once we bring that functionality back and make it easy to use we'll let you know. Thanks for your patience!

Inappropriate?Hi Liz, you're exactly right...right now the permissions aren't clear at all. The way they're supposed to work is by allowing you to tags to match what information is available to what people. So, if you tag a service "friends", only those people tagged "friends" will be able to see it. This is a two-step process, and not that easy to understand. We're working on the next version of this, and hope to clear it up so that its immediately understandable.

Inappropriate?yes, i was actually wondering how did these contacts authenticate themselves against the site?
I’m still unsure

Inappropriate?OK - so if I understand this correctly, if I happen upon a new service online that uses OpenID, I will be able to sign up for that service just by using my OpenID without having to fill in all the blanks all over again, yes? But that service must offer a sign up using the OpenID, yes again?
Then, my .mp site aggregates all the services I am signed up for in one spot so I don't have to specifically log in to each service individually to check them, they can all be checked from one location. yes yes? -
Assuming that service accepts either the SReg or AttributeExchange extensions for OpenID, then you are correct that you would not need to fill in all of the information. It is quite possible that you would still need to fill in some of the information, depending on what they require.
And yes, you can then use your .mp site to aggregate services if we either support that service directly or using the new RSS/Atom feed support.
