I know it isn't released yet, but what can you tell me about Chi.mp?
I heard about chi.mp from Brian Oberkirch, and I'm intrigued by the description, but I want more. What can you tell me about Chi.mp?

Thanks for the encouragement Ben! Loic's post certainly made me hope that we are on the right track, I'm optimistic that we can really make a dent in putting people back in control of their 'centralised me'. Good luck with Pez, it looks like a very handy application and I'll look forward to seeing it develop.

Hi!
Chi.mp in its essence is a Content Hub and Identity Management Platform that lets you aggregate, manage and represent your identity online and connect that identity with people you know across the web through an open interoperable network.
Chi.mp uses your domain and makes that domain the central identifier of who you are on the web. If you don't have a domain, we'll give you one for free. From there you will be able to gather and manage all your online stuff and present them to who you want, how you want. By making your personal domain the center of your identity it means that if you get tired of us, you can move to another provider without losing the key identifier on the web that represents you. Your identity is yours and you should be able to change providers in the same way that you can keep your phone number but switch from T-mobile to AT&T.
Everything will be exportable, if you decide you don't like Chi.mp you can export your blog posts, photos, friends lists and everything else conceivably on the system to a different provider. We think we should encourage people to stay by creating a great service rather than by locking them in. You will also be able to allow other sites to subscribe to your content and contacts so that you won't have to go through the hassle of adding friends or uploading photos to yet another site, chi.mp will do it for you.
Chi.mp also turns your domain into a secure personal Openid provider and uses Openid to create an open social network with other chi.mp sites. In fact, we'll be making the entire network interoperable so if other identity management platforms spring up you'll be able to interact with people on those too just as you would with people deploying chi.mp.
We're trying to kickstart the evolution of personal identity online and make it so that you and you alone have control over who you are online. You can read about how we get there on http://www.ownyouridentity.com.
Warm Regards,
Tony

Inappropriate?Just the other day, I wondered if something like this was under development, or were people too worried about coming up with the next FriendFeed.
Loic Le Meur made a blog post about wanting to bring his decentralized information back to his blog (http://www.loiclemeur.com/english/200...).
There is definitely a need for this.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Hey Tony,
Thanks! Loic's drawing of his social map made me realize that it has become overwhelming. Even the services created to help with this only add to it. What I would like to do is scale back on my use of those sites, and make my domain the place to go (instead of my Facebook) and be able to bring in the data I input from other services, so my friends and family don't have to network hop to see it.
Oh, it was a small breadcrumb trail to find chi.mp. I've been subscribed to the Bokardo feed for a while, I saw the blog post about Own Your Identity, and I'm here. I can't wait to see chi.mp in action.
Cheers,
-Ben

Inappropriate?I'm a bit, no more than a bit, curious how chi.mp works/looks like. Is there a description somewhere? (so I can look at it while waiting for the release :) )
I’m curious

Inappropriate?Certainly! Http://chi.mp/what-is-chimp should get you started. You can also look at http://laurel.mp to get an idea of how our sites look. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Aloha,
