I'm thinking of getting a Chumby but I can't figure one thing out. If I use it as an alarm clock, does my computer have to be on to feed content to the Chumby? My computer is usually asleep while I'm asleep. Does it need to be "awake" to wake me up, or does it not work like that at all?

I just got my invitation to buy a Chumby and discovered that the company only ships within the United States. That's usually ok for me because I'd ship the package to friends in the US and pick it up. But, they also only accept credit cards with US addresses. What about PayPal?
I emailed Chumby to suggest this, and they responded quite quickly with the answer in their FAQ that it's "due to legal restrictions"
I've heard mention that it's not as open as it is advertised to be. Ian Bogost is thinking this way on his blog. What does everyone else think? What is open enough to be open source?
