Allow for some very simple timeline selection before exporting so we can export only a snippet of a test instead of the whole thing. This would require the ability to view the composition before exporting (which is mentioned as an issue elsewhere on GS).
The benefit would be that you take up much less hard drive space, and you can easily grab the minute or two that you want and export quickly. Right now export times are prohibitive.
On several occasions I've decided against exporting videos for a project b/c of the sheer amount of time of exporting. Thinking about the issue a bit more made me realize that I only needed to share a few moments from the test with my team members...the critical interaction points of the test. A super simple timeline and export snippet feature would help fix that, I think.
If I have recorded several sessions over the course of a day. I would then want que-up Silverback to Export the sessions over night. typically I record 4 to 6 hours worth of video.
I can only see how to Export one session at a time. Each time I have to manually select the item and set it running.
We've just added the ability to create localised version of Silverback in the next release, so we'd be interested to know what languages you'd like us to support.
Oh, and if you fancy helping us translate the app into your language of choice, we'd obviously love you forever.
Now that you've managed to do away with the need for external cameras, it seems possible to test users anywhere so long as they have a Mac with an iSight camera. A "microapp" that is sent to the user to be tested that does the recording and sends the data back to the home app, perhaps?
I've just started using Silverback and have recorded 6 sessions. Two of these sessions are failing to export, causing the app to repeatedly crash every time. What can I do to recover these videos? I want to recommend this to others at my company, but I'm afraid this has ruined my experience.
This would allow people to be able to see the videos without exporting. If you have a ton of usability tests this application should act to organize them, not just produce them. At the very least you should link to the exported video once they are exported.
My name is Jude O'Reilley and after running out the Silverback apps expiration time I purchased the license. But as I open it it says 'no valid license found'.
Cannot install license file. I am using my license file that was provided for my account (chris at iterativedesigns dot com) and regardless if I do the click method or the drag drop method it still returns the result "No valid Silverback license found."
Now I've got an idea, I don't know if it would be good or not.
I've put it in sequence to try and explain it:
- The facilitator starts a new project in Silverback, at that time he also adds tasks and or scenarios for the project.
- Right before the test, he creates a new session, he adds a title and is able to sort the tasks and scenarios if necessary. (To create different setups.)
- Right before the user arrives he starts the session. The screen turns black and shows the first task/scenario to the user. With the text "Press spacebar to start" underneath it.
- The user presses the spacebar and completes the task. When the user thinks he's done, the facilitator presses the play/pause button on the remote control and then the forward button. The app then saves the first task and all the necessary information. While the screen turns black again.
- The facilitator can then ask a few posttask questions, if needed.
- To start the next task, the facilitator presses the forward button again. The app then shows the next task/scenario. And the user can start the task.
...
- When the session is over, the app shows all the different tasks with separate recorded files and info. The facilitator can then add extra notes.
Splitting up the tasks into separate video files allows shorter export time. Because now, when you do a session of about an hour, with several tasks, the video gets really large.
Showing the tasks/scenarios on the screen, also leaves out the need for extra text cards. And when you later look back at the project you have the task and the video linked with each other.
Would it be possible to accommodate video (screencast) capture on secondary screen? Right now it only supports capturing what is on my laptop screen and not my secondary screen.
great product guys. couple of points that would make the product awesome though.
1) for a usability app, you should probably correct the user messaging when creating a project that says "click the new session button above" when actually its not above, it's below and the + / - buttons don't have tooltips to say what they do (in fact none of the buttons have tooltips!)
2) secondly as a feature request how about a HUD window with a checkable list of tasks for the user to complete, saves handing them a list prior to the test.
Right now (unless I missed it) there's no way to capture only a portion of the screen. I have a BIG display, so the app devotes a lot of resources to recording areas of my screen aren't needed (and the resulting movie is less efficient). This would also help eliminate privacy snafus by the user revealing something they didn't intend to. Of course, this should be an option - sometimes you want to capture *everything* the user is seeing and doing. But often you just want to see how they interact with a single Web site, or just in a browser. Thanks.
I looked around but didn't see anything on this. It would be extremely helpful if I could export key presses and mouseclick information (e.g., as CSV). At the moment, it seems like I would have to go back through and count the clicks from the movie, which seems a tad pointless. Indeed, often I'd like to have that data *not* integrated into the video but *just* as data.
I set in the preferences not to show the iSight video but I check to hear the output iSight audio but the result is no audio at all.
How can I solve the problem ? Thanks in advance. Rita
