Exporting a long session fails after many hours
Exporting of a 2 hour, 57 minute session fails after several hours of processing. I've tried several times but after around 4 or 5 hours silverback crashes and the exported mov is unusable by both Quicktime and VLC.

Inappropriate?I have to admit that we've never tested such a long session as the majority of usability tests last between 45-60min. Theoretically the size shouldn't matter, but in reality a 3 hour movie is going to be huge and thus involve considerable processing power and RAM usage. As such, it's highly possible that your machine is running out of memory before the export completes.
So we can see what's going on, can you delete your Silverback crash and export logs, try the export again and then send us the logs if it crashes again. -
Inappropriate?Ok, I'm re-running the export after deleting all of the silverback logs I could find in my home directory. FYI, I am running this export on a MacBook Pro 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM and OSX 10.5.8.

Inappropriate? It crashed, as expected, but the crash reporter that came up said there was no crash log. I do, however see two likely candidates for things that would be helpful in
~/Library/Application Support/MMICrashReporter/Reports/Silverback/Unsent/Silverback 20090907124156648.crashreport
and
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Silverback_2009-09-07-124150_justin-patrins-macbook-pro.crash
I can send those to you via e-mail or another channel if you prefer or I can copy-paste pertinent bits. Both are small, 30k and 24k.
Also, the mov that was created (and unfinished) is larger than 8GB but the original data for the session is only 5.3GB.... Is it writing a completely uncompressed video if I choose "Best" quality? I'm going to try "Low" quality and see if perhaps that gets me an export. -
Thanks Justin, can you send them via email to andy@clearleft.com and we'll try to track down the problem. -
Inappropriate? We have an update (version 1.1.2) to Silverback that we will be pushing out within the next couple of weeks that we believe should fix the issues some users have experienced when recording and exporting long sessions.

i don't really think you should mark this as solved until the update is shipped and we can see that it works, do you?
