OMGz The License Doesn't work?!?!?!
Cannot install license file. I am using my license file that was provided for my account (chris at iterativedesigns dot com) and regardless if I do the click method or the drag drop method it still returns the result "No valid Silverback license found."

There are several ways to activate your licence once it's been emailed to you. These include.
* Double clicking the file in your mail app.
* Dragging the file from your mail app to the Silverback icon in your dock.
* Downloading the licence to your desktop and then double clicking it there.
* Dragging the file to the licence preference pane in the application.
The most effective method depends on the version of the OS you're using and your chosen mail app. So if you're having problems, please try a different method.
Occasionally servers or online mail clients may try to "sanitise" the licence and end up blocking or breaking it. This was happening with GMail a couple of months back until we fixed it. Unfortunately zipping the licence up doesn't always work and may cause problems for other people. As such, if you suspect there's a problem with your licence due to your ISP or server settings please contact us directly and we'll try to find an alternate way of sending the licence to you.
A couple of people have experienced problems with corrupted preference files. This results in a message saying "No valid Silverback license found." Unfortunately the only way to solve this problem is to trash your Silverback preferences and try again. To do this...
1) Trash the app's pref file: Library > Preferences > com.clearleft.Silverback.plist
2) Open Silverback and select: Silverback > Preferences
3) Click the "Register" menu option and drag the license file into the box labelled: Drag your license file here to register Silverback
If you find yourself having any problems with your licence files please contact us straight away and we'll sort it out ASAP.

Inappropriate?Hello Chris,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with your license. I will look into this problem for you if you forward me all communications you have recieved so far from silverback. My email is natalie at clearleft dot com
I'll then be able investigate the issues with your current license, or if needed generate you a new one.
Kind regards,
Natalie -
Inappropriate?I sent the license file to you.

Hi Voodootikigod, can I just confirm that everything is working now, or are you still having problems? -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue installing the license file.
-
Inappropriate?I had the same issue when I followed the instructions to download it to my desktop and double clicked the license file. I received the "No valid Silverback license found" message. I tried downloading it again and instead of double-clicking it from my desktop, I just clicked the "open" link from the downloads window (I use FF) and it worked. Couldn't tell you why that should be any different, but it worked....
-
Inappropriate? Here is what worked for me to resolve the issue (per Andy):
1) Trash the app's pref file: Library > Preferences > com.clearleft.Silverback.plist
2) Open Silverback and select: Silverback > Preferences
3) Click the "Register" menu option and drag the license file into the box labeled: Drag your license file here to register Silverback
Voila.

Inappropriate?I had this problem when my ISP sanitized the license as suspected malware.
Suggest the license be zipped before attaching to emails, or link to an ftp site where the license can be downloaded without sanitizing
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I had this problem, and although Geoff A's solution sorted it (thanks Geoff), I think Clearleft should have stepped up and fixed this by now. We're paying for the app after all.

Hi Tim, I'm really sorry to hear you've been experiencing problems registering your application. Unfortunately we believe this is due to a corrupted preferences file and is something beyond our control. However if you feel that this experience has negatively impacted your usage of Silverback please let me know and we'll happily refund the purchase price. -
It's a really good app, I'm happy to pay for it (now it's working). But I'd recommend amending the email you send with the license file to cover the alternative ways of activating so users don't have to trawl for answers.
Or even find another way to activate that avoids this altogether. Maybe. -

Inappropriate?OK, I followed the trash the old .plist file and drag the license to the preferences pane, and all looks good, however when I exit the app it appears the preferences never get saved, and I end up with an unlicensed copy again (along with lost other preferences) Any ideas?
