Morae's main disadvantage, particularly for freelancers, is the price (£925). Camtasia Studio, in effect the company's cut-down version of Morae, clocks in at £185 and might suit smaller budgets better. See http://store.techsmith.com/order/camt...
In my Windows days I used Camtasia for usability testing, and it did the job - although it lacks some of the specific functionality of Morae (and Silverback, for that matter).
Hope this helps any Windows users out there.

We'd love to do a Windows version of Silverback, but we decided to focus on the Mac platform for the initial release for a couple of reasons.
* All modern Macs come with a built in iSight camera and mic, so the hardware is more predictable
* There are a few usability apps for Windows, but none for Macs
* We're primarily a Mac shop so it made sense for us to focus on a Mac app to start
However if the app is popular and we see a demand, we'd be more than happy todo a Windows version.

Inappropriate?Silverback is awesome. In order to implement this in my day to day, I would need to be able to do the exact same things in Windows. Is there an app that offers similar functionality in Windows that I could implement alongside Silverback?
-
Inappropriate?Morae (http://www.techsmith.com/morae.asp) is a similar Windows-only solution.
-
Inappropriate? Is it as simple and straightforward? I'd like to offer a low-priced usability testing methodology to my clients on either platform.

Inappropriate? Not just Morae, specifically Morae Recorder. That has the most comparable features to Silverback. you may need to also purchase the facilitator version of Morae to actually view the results but 100% not sure.
I’m amused

Inappropriate?Well, for now I think one option would be to launch a VMWare Fusion session fullscreen. This way you can use Silverback and windows. Don't know how well it works, though.
-
Inappropriate?Actually, if your on windows it would be easier to just use Morae Recorder. I dont get why everyone feels it needs to support Windows.. theres a bunch of Windows based usability tools out there.. go check em out. The main thing about Silverback is that it's for the Mac.. perhaps the first ever usability tool for the mac.
I’m frustrated
-
Yeah, easier to spend 20 times the amount of Silverback for Morae Recorder instead -
No, Morae Recorder is only $200 :) -
Inappropriate?Ok, thanks for the responses guys. I'll check out the various solutions that you have all suggested.
I’m happy
