Good option for home broadband?
I'm considering switching from Comcast, do users in the Seattle area have any feedback on the company and service?

Inappropriate?I hope you haven't switched yet! We live in downtown Seattle, and Clearwire is
horrible here. The plan we're on promising up to 2.0 Mb download/256k upload speeds, but we rarely get anywhere close to that. A lot of times, we can't even get basic web pages to load. Forget about streaming. It's like being back in the early days of the internet, watching web pages load one pixel at a time. Customer support hasn't exactly been helpful either.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Clearwire is awful. Just total crap. plus, they ding you with hundreds of dollars of early termination fees and don't stop billing you after that. Stay far, far away from Clearwire.

Inappropriate?I agree with the other comments, I have had Clearwire (in the downtown Seattle area) for over a year and can not get out of my contract without a very hefty fee. Although the wireless modem shows 2-4 lights (out of five lights; this, via Clearwire, this means I have a usable signal) I have extremely scattered service, and very seldom am able to actually use their signal (I constantly need to reboot, unplug their wireless modem, reconnect my wireless router, etc). Clearwire customer service keeps giving me the runaround and refuses to acknowledge any problems with their hardware/signal.
My only Internet access since I started using Clearwire has been to go to the local coffee shop and use their free service (sad, right?). I know a couple other people with Clearwire, and they have been actually receive and use the signal, but have been very disappointed with the speed (or lack thereof).
I have a 2 year contract with Clearwire, and should have canceled within the first few months. Unfortunately I didn't (for no good reason other than figuring they would get it to work eventually), and now am just waiting for my contract to end.
I’m paying for somthing that doesn't work

RussellElbert - I would like to try and help you with this issue. Would you be able to leave an email address or contact information so I could get ahold of you? -
I definitely do not feel comfortable leaving my contact info on a public web page. In addition I've discussed my 'options' a few times with ClearWire and have been firmly told that I have two ways out of the contract:
1) pay a hefty fee
2) convince someone else to take over my contract
Unfortunately I do not have the large sum to get out of my contract, and I definitely do not feel comfortable conning someone else into paying for something that is below standard or doesn't work. However you can do one thing for me: please have ClearWire stop the 'robocalls' that I have been receiving 2-5 times a day; I do not respond to this type of harassment. -
Are you on twitter? We could communicate using direct messages on twitter if that would make you feel more comfortable. I'm sure we can resolve this somehow. Go to http://www.twitter.com/clearwire and give us a follow! -
How about the rest of us? -
We'd love to help you too! You can follow Clearwire on twitter, and, if you direct message your information, we will be able to pull up your account and see what can be done. -
Jennifer, thanks for your continued comments and I apologize if I am coming off a bit annoyed - I simply want to stop paying for something that doesn't work, past expirance with ClearWire has been extremely discouraging, and I do not want to continue receiving the runaround. If you personally feel you can get me out of my contract please let me know how to contact you or someone who can. Thanks again for your concern on this matter. -
Inappropriate?Me too. Is it too much to ask to stream a video once in a while? That's pretty much the point of the internet these days. I paid extra for the "faster" option, 2M, but often my speeds are more like 200k. And all five of my lights are on, an "excellent" signal! Do NOT use clearwire.
I’m writing this from the library

We would like to help you. Streaming video is very touchy on our service, however, due to the method we use to send packets, but I would like to try and help improve your service if I can. Could you leave me a contact email address so I can get ahold of you? -
Inappropriate?Great to hear from an official rep! I hope this issue gets resolved soon. However, if there's an issue with streaming video, Clearwire needs to be more upfront with this in their marketing. Video is one of the major reasons users would want fast internet in the first place.
I’m undecided
