Install in Fedora and Enterprise Linuxes in one step.

Did you know it is easy to maintain aRPM packages in Fedora for easy installation in Fedora and downstream distros such as RHEL and CentOS? There is also EPEL, an extra repository of Fedora packages maintained in Fedora infrastructure that is available to Enterprise Linux distros. You can get a package in to Fedora and branch it for EPEL.

Since OpenJDK 6 is also in Fedora 9, 10, and EPEL 5, installing the Hadoop RPM should be as easy as 'yum install hadoop' ... without having to create a new repo; without having to download and tweak an RPM from Sun.

If you plan on Hadoop running on RHEL and derivatives, this is a great plan. If you want to get a six to twelve month headstart on RHEL 6 beta testing, this is a great plan.
