Inappropriate? This is a dependency problem. We've got a fix and will roll it out for the next release of desktop. In the meanwhile use the --nodeps option.
Cheers
Chad

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?Thanks, Chad.
yum doesn't have this option. but --nodeps worked with rpm.
got desktop running.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Even though I used the "--nodeps" option to install the Cloudera Desktop using RPM file, it consistently complains about the "VersionConflict: (setuptools 0.6c11 (/usr/share/cloudera-desktop/eggs/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg), Requirement.parse('setuptools==0.6c9')) . . ." error. Do you have any idea about this?
-
Inappropriate?Where can I get the RPM file for the desktop?
-
Inappropriate?Hi Jiksoo,
Thanks for the bug report,
Which distribution are you running? We've seen some errors like this during development, and want to recreate your environment in order to reliably track down the issue.
Linh: you can download RPMs from http://archive.cloudera.com/redhat/cd...

Inappropriate?Hi, Todd? I downloaded the source file of Cloudera Desktop from "http://archive.cloudera.com/desktop/". It looks like I used 0.2.0 version. Anyway, I bypassed this issue through manual modification of the setuptools version in "versions.cfg". BTW, I am using CentOS 5.2 and Python 2.5.4 version.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Jiksoo,
Yes, this is a good workaround for installing from the tar. I was confused and thought you were using the RPM, where we've never seen this issue before.
Glad you're up and running, now
-Todd -
Inappropriate?Oh, as I remember even when I used the RPM file with the same version of Cloudera Desktop, I could see the same error message too ! FYI, I used the "cloudera-desktop-0.2.0-1.x86_64.rpm" file to install.
-
Inappropriate?I installed the python 2.5.2 version on my redhat system and installed the cloudera desktop rmp file with the nodeps option set. I added all the configuration options specified by the following site http://archive.cloudera.com/desktop/p.... However, when I try to start the desktop using the following command sudo /etc/init.d/cloudera-desktop start I am getting the following message: -bash: /usr/ share/cloudera-desktop/bin/supervisor: No such file or directory. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem.
-
Inappropriate?Linh: sounds like the RPM install actually failed, if that file is not present. When you installed the RPM, did it print any errors?
-
Inappropriate?Todd,
I am getting the following error message when I try to install the rpm file:
./env/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.5.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
-bash: ./bin/buildout: No such file or directory
-bash: ./bin/desktop: No such file or directory
Thanks,
Linh -
Inappropriate?Todd,
I installed the python 2.5 version onto my red hat system. The libpython2.5.so.1.0 is located in the /usr/local/lib directory and I have my LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to this directory. However, when I try to install from the rpm I keep getting the following error message: ./env/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.5.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
-bash: ./bin/buildout: No such file or directory
-bash: ./bin/desktop: No such file or directory
Is the rpm file looking for this file in a different directory? How can I fix this problem?
Thanks,
Linh -
Inappropriate?Hi Linh,
Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure what's going on on your system.
I'm happy to report, though, that we will have a release out in the coming weeks that will support CentOS 5 natively on python 2.4 without any additional installation or mucking about.
Please be sure to subscribe to our announcement mailing list by emailing desktop-announce-subscribe@cloudera.com so that you hear when this release hits the ground.
Thanks

Will this also work with RedHat? The image we're using has Python 2.4 and not 2.5. I can always bring down the latest from python.org (2.6.x) or I could bring down 2.5. Is the python path hard coded in, or if I bring down 2.6.x and install it where Python wants to go... what variables do I need to set up in my sudo shell to get it installed?
Thx -
Inappropriate?Hi Michael,
We will have an RPM available later today that should work on RedHat 5 (with Python 2.4) with no extra monkeying around. Be sure to sign up for the announcement list I linked above. If you shoot me an email offline in the meantime (todd at the domain you expect .com) I can probably get you a copy early if you'd like to give it a try.
Thanks

Todd- will this new version today support CentOS 5 as well? As others have commented, the Python version is 2.4. -
Yep, RHEL 5 and CentOS 5 are compatible (we actually build on CentOS) -
Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
We've just pushed a new release of Cloudera Desktop (v0.3.0) which supports CentOS/RHEL 5 without any special python versions.

Thanks
-Todd
