EC2 instance does not get launched
I created an EC2 elastic server and uploaded it to Amazon S3. On the CFT "Manage ec2" page, i clicked on "Manage running instances". Against one of my Ec2 images, i clicked on launch and asked it to launch 1 instance. I got a message that said something like this page will be updated automatically with the status of the running instance.
Anyhow, it has been about 5 hours now and refreshing the page still says "No instances are currently running under EC2."
Can you please tell me what is wrong here.
THanks.
John

Inappropriate?Hi John,
Could you tell us what version of what browser you are running?
And - as a simple check - could you kill your browser - and look at the page again - and attempt the operation again.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Hello Pat,
I am using Firefox 3.0.1. Killing the browser and looking at that information did not help. It still says that no instances are currently running.
My account user name is jadams2020.
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Thanks John.
I see 2 AMIs in your account - one built using ES - and one that appears to have been uploaded/registered by hand.
In order to look further can I attempt to launch each of your instances from our backend tools? If I launch them each 1 or 2 times it will cost you about 40 cents of EC2 costs.
Would you like me to proceed?

Inappropriate?I got a separate direct message from CFT asking which AMI I was trying to launch. Here is the response I sent:
"It is https://es.cohesiveft.com/server/deta.... When I opened the page just now to respond to you, I saw one instance running (apparently from about 4:30 GMT). That was when I started it. But even after a couple of browser restarts, I never saw this. However...
As I started typing this email, I saw that cft started terminating the instance saying something like “user initiated shutdown” and it finally said terminated!!
It just ran for 10 hours without my knowledge and just when I got to know it terminated!
Is Firefox 3.0.1 not supported?
If you have to test the launch, please use this AMI only - this is the AMI created using CFT. Please dont try launching the other AMI that I created by hand.
THanks.

Inappropriate?Hmmm.
As I said earlier. Sorry about that. 3.0.1 is supported - I run it daily.
I will do some further testing. I will send an email privately if I need to launch your AMI.

Inappropriate?Any good news?

Inappropriate?I can't recreate the problem you had.
My guess is the following happened.
We cache the images and instance list and then compare it in the background to the information we get back from calls to EC2. We must have a problem there somewhere. We are taking a look.
In the meantime since you had a problem - I would recommend using a utility like ElasticFox to supplement your use of Elastic Servers. This gives you another "set of eyes" on your instances while we enhance our EC2 manager.
I am pretty sure you did everything right on your end. We will keep looking on ours.
-
Inappropriate? Can you try another browser? Something without plugins?
-
John - it all depends on you. Obviously we want to figure out what happened and will work to recreate the problem. If you have the patience for trying in Safari - lets say - that would be great. But we will look as well. -
Inappropriate?Is IE 7 supported?
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure if it's officially supported, but that would work. I'm trying to figure if it might be one of your Firefox browser plugin. Any browser without plugins should tell us something.
-
Inappropriate?I am seeing the same problem in IE7. I will not be online for some time. Can I request you to please shut down the instance that CFT must have started.
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hello,
did the instance start running and did you have to stop it? i checked the page again and i see that no instances are running. please acknowledge that you have shut down any instance that was started using CFT's page or tell me that you have no way of doing it so that i can look at alternatives.
Thanks.
Ram
I’m anxious

Inappropriate? You have one server uploaded but no instances are running on Amazon EC2. The ElasticFox plugin can be found here: http://developer.amazonwebservices.co...
I would suggest installing it to use as an alternative tool for EC2.
Sorry for the confusion. -
Inappropriate?Okay. Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem too. I've have tried launching an AMI instance from the Cloud Manager in both Safari and Firefox, and it just comes back without any launching the instance.
Interestingly if I click the image listed under the EC2 Images heading it returns the following error:
Sorry, you're not authorized to view this page
If I click the Show Images button next to my account id, the page simply refreshes.
I have checked both my AWS Account Activity for EC2, and the list of AMIs in ElasticFox, both show no activity.
My CohesiveFT Account Login is 'applicio.us'.
Please help.

Inappropriate?I'm looking into this now. I'll get back to you shortly
-
Inappropriate? Can you email me directly at gene.jannece@cohesiveft.com. I think we figured out the issue, but I need some private info from you so email might be better. I'll post the solution once we fully figure it out. Thanks!

Inappropriate?John's manifest file was corrupted. Once he makes a new AMI it should work fine.
