IPSec-2-EC2 FE connection to OpenSwan Gateway

Hi,
for evaluation we have launched vpn-cubed manager ami and configured it followed the steps shown in your manual (v20090827). Our goal was to establish a ipsec vpn connection to our openswan gateway. Unfortunately we are not able to get the both endpoints creating a tunnel between them. It seems there is a misconfiguration with the ipsec parameters. The best result was to hang in phase MR2 waiting for MI3.
My first question is if such a scenario is possible in general? Did anyone else get it working with OpenSwan before?
If necessary i can provide details about the configuration and error/problem reports.
