2009 Digital Switchover / Splitters & VCRs?
2009 Analog to Digital Conversion Switchover / Splitters and VCRs:
I have an F connector cable from wall to 4:1 splitter to (Analog) TV (Cable Ready) & 3 VCR's each w/ F connector input and Tuners which output to a 3:1 Signal Selector which outputs to the TV Alternate Input. This setup allows taping 3 shows simultaneously for time shifting (watching a 4th at the same time is possible) all controlled by remotes. (Couch potato!)
When a lightning surge killed one VCR recently, I found new VCR's have no F connector, only RCA jack and NO TUNERS! Does this mean we will not be able to tape shows? Will we need a converter for the F connector to RCA? Will it need a converter box? Is the output of the converter splittable or would I need 4+ converters?

Inappropriate?Wow now that is one heck of a set up! First let me clarify the February 2009 conversion is for over the air broadcast only and does not impact cable at all. I do expect cable will continue to have less channels available through analog because for each analog channel we can have 10-12 digital or 2-3 HD channels. So you may need a converter box to enjoy some of your favorite channels. That is why RCA connections are more common for electronic devices like the VCR's you were looking. You really should not split out the RCA cables. It will impact picture and sound quality.
I would recommend that you consider a DVR. It would really simplify your life and it will allow you to record multiple shows at the same time without tapes. The other benefit to having a cable box is On Demand. Another reason you would not have to record as much and you will get more out of TV.
