Audio drops on Comcast HD channels

I am experiencing intermittent .5 - 1 second audio drops on HD programming, which is through Comcast.

- I have a Motorola HD-DVR DCT 3416 I connected via HDMI to my Panny plasma (for video) and a digital optical cable (for audio) to my non-HDMI-ready receiver.

- I experience the .5 - 1 second intermittent sound drops regularly on NatGeoHD, Palladia, MLB Network and now most recently Fox HD.

- The sound drops happen whether I watch "live" or record, and if I rewind the drop will either disappear or appear in a different spot.

I have tried unplugging the Motorola box for upwards of five minutes (I read that somewhere) but that didn't do anything...

I am frustrated beyond belief.
