Comcast and World of Warcraft problems?
If you haven't heard of this problem yet, which hopefully you have, it is unbearable. Getting disconnected every 5-20mins is just not something normal and worth my money to pay for. There is a forum full of people having the exact same problem and no one is taking action. No one is fessing up with who has to problem and blaming it on the other person, topical Comcast profile. I mean it could be comcast or blizzard, all i want to know is if there are people looking into it and if there is a report out on it yet so i can start blaming the right people.

This is ridiculous, It's funny how i just hung up with someone from comcast who fessed up that the problem lies withing comcast in dallas. SO technically it is your fault comcast and you should really consider fixing this problem ASAP before you loose all of your customers that can't enjoy a game online because of this. Oh almost forgot the comcast rep also said that this will be resloved in 72hrs.... should i even belive this since on friday i was told it would be 3-10 hrs... HAHAHAHA! fix this or you will losse ALOT of customers! -
This is becoming a deal breaker with me, your ondemand HD has been pretty terrible for me, and now your internet service is failing. Nevermind your technical support has managed to blame almost everyone and anything for problems that are specific to your network. If this isn't fixed soon Hello Verizon! -
LOL I just noticed the reps reply was a day ago. Can you hear me now? -
Scroll down .. more updates from Comcast in the thread. "update - The issue has been traced to an equipment issue with a different company. Replacement of the equipment will occur this afternoon" (12/21) -
I don't care what the "cause" of the problem is. It is a problem with my internet service >> Comcast is my ISP >> Comcast needs to fix it immediately. This has been going on too long. Get it fixed. -
I apologize the problem is not with AT&T servers, the current problem is a transport failure with Savvis in the LA area. It is expected to be corrected in the next 2 hours. -
Inappropriate?Wow, "We do not have a relationship with them" you will when you lose 5 million cutomers.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This is now a 230 page thread, this is causing me to miss guild ( club) events and social interaction time with my friends if it cannot be fixed soon, regardless of whose fault it is, I'll be switching isp's.
I’m mad
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem happening as well. However, the problem seems to be with AT&T, as such comcast since comcast routes much of their traffic through AT&T lines.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Frank, what do you mean "We're working with them"???
Tell us who to actually talk to because this is literally ruining 10's of thousands of your customers exp on a weekend, sorry I probably am actually rather low since 11 million play this game, 100k or so. It's just ridiculously bad for this to be through your ISP and all you say is "we dont' have a relationship with how we route traffic" Yet somehow everyone who isn't using comcast is ok... GREAT JOB
I’m very mad
-
Inappropriate?Ok so is there no way to route to the Blizzard servers through another path than what ATT is providing, I dont care if it takes extra hops, it's murdering my holidays and vacation plans.
I’m pissed
-
Inappropriate?situation has only gotten worse as of this morning. please provide us with an update or a link to flame the at&t server so the masses are herd.
I’m unimpressed
-
Inappropriate?Appears to be almost exclusively related to people who are comcast customers. Verizon seems to have cleared up its issue and its users are reporting no problems.
Certainly makes me consider their company a much better alternative. -
Inappropriate?Great job comcast for not doing a thing, you always try to blame someone else. Maybe it isn't you, but at least work together and solve the problem. If you don't want to loose 2 million people, may want to look into it, and stop twiddling your thumbs.
-
Inappropriate?Regardless of who is at fault, this has been an ongoing problem since Friday and it is entirely unacceptable. I haven't had a good track record dealing with Comcast customer support, and it shows poor character when a company doesn't do everything in its power to accomodate their customers. This has been a problem for too long and it's reached the breaking point for me.
The number of people encountering this problem is staggering, and all you have to say is that you have no relationship with the company you run your servers through? You shall not have my business if this does not improve.
I’m perterbed.
-
Inappropriate?Agreed, I'm a Comcast customer from New England and between the issue two nights ago, and the new issue today, I'm getting frustrated enough that I would consider terminating the 18 months of remaining contract and getting another service provider, as this is one of the main reasons I have high speed internet.
I’m extremely frustrated
-
Inappropriate? If your servers are anyway dependent on AT&T you might want to consider getting a relationship with them.
-
Inappropriate?I'm getting unimaginable lag after having to deal with the disconnections 2 days ago.
I was looking for an excuse to switch ISPs!
I’m extremely frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?screw you comcast, your bills are outrageous, your customer service atrocious, and your quality of service, to be desired. i will be leaving for at&t uverse after the holidays.
you will no longer get a dime out of me. time warner was by far a better experience. -
Inappropriate?I'm from East Tn and I am getting extremely horrible latency. This isn't the first time this has happened this year either.
-
Inappropriate? The Problem doesnt seem to be with ATT, it is ATT. Since comcast routes their traffic through ATT lines, i would imagine that Comcast would be putting more pressure on ATT to fix this. As we can all see, when we call in to Comcast Tech support we are told that it is our end that is to blame or that it is blizzards fault, and ive seem instances of people saying that comcast tech support as hung up on them when people start telling them to fix the problem. Comcast needs to get their game together or they will probably start to loose many customers and only then will they finally say "oh gee, we should have done something." As for the Comcast post We do not have a relationship with them," what a load of bull. How could you not have any relationship with the company that you route your traffic through? As a previous post stated, You should really consider having a relationship with them if you dont. Maybe then, issues like these could be avoided or the very least, lessen the amount of time it takes to fix such an issue.
I’m not happy with comcast.
-
Inappropriate? This problem is miserable. I don't care that if it's a problem with at&t and not your servers - it only affects comcast customers so it clearly has something to do with you. Perhaps at&t is limiting access to comcast customers intentionally. We still pay you to provide access to the content on the internet we wish to visit. You're going to lose my business if you don't fix this ASAP.
Please provide a number we can call to discuss this matter with a live representative.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?lol I really don't think comcast realizes just how many people use their internet connection just to play warcraft. They think it's funny that we can't play our video game. But whats really going to be funny is when they lose a million customers on monday. GG comcast no christmas bounus this year.
-
Its not just games, some people also have said that websites aren't working for them either. And theirs a number of them to. -
i play WoW, and yes, like sickporsche says, it is with general internet-ing as well as WoW. Streaming and downloading music and video has the same lag/lockup that WoW does. I get disconnected from the Vent server as well as other servers like Pogo. Yes, as sad as it is, i cant even consistantly play Pogo in WoW's absence. I've spent 2 1/2 weeks on the phone with Comcast's customer service and get no further than to power cycle the modem, or a service tech can come out between 1 and 5pm on 12/28/08. Verizon is looking good all of the sudden... -
Inappropriate? You can point fingers at AT&T all you like...but it will be me switching from Comcast to Qwest if the situation is not resolved by tuesday. I give Comcast and Blizzard a check on a rolling basis, not AT&T.
-3 year Coustomer (@ 3 households)
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I smell an opportunity of class action law suite. Maybe if we threaten them, we can get some real progress done.
I’m still hateing comcast.
-
Inappropriate?Yeah they need to fix this shit asap or they are going to lose alot of people. Its pointless for me to even to pay for wow when i can't even play it!!
I’m pissed
-
Inappropriate? This is BS... paying 15 dollars a month to play a game I cant even log on to? Blizz and Comcast need to fix this problem NOW, and not wat till next maintenence day to do it. Blizz has been having problems ever since Lich King came out... especially on the Illidan server, before the comcast D/C's the server would crash every 20 mins during raiding times, making the game unplayable. A solution MUST be developed NOW.
I’m going to ask comcast for a refund and switch internet providers
-
Inappropriate? It seems to me that comcast doesn't want to admit they have an issue. If they are dependent on the AT&T servers, the statement "We do not have a relationship with them" is incorrect. they are using AT&T's equipment to service millions of customers, make them correct the problem, or move on to someone that will. I know it sounds easy, but why would Comcast rely on one company (that by the way is not the most stable) to handle traffic for so many people.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This has been going on for days and is effecting hundreds if not thousands of Comcast and Blizzard customers. Could we at least get an update from a Comcast rep?
I don't buy the "We do not have a relationship with them..." Comcast, in this case, is a customer of AT&T. I'm sure it's not free to route all your traffic through their servers. There should be some leverage available to get this fixed.
I’m disappointed with Comcast's response and will be calling Verizon for ISP info shortly.
-
Inappropriate? It's very very simple, there are at least a million of us now getting shafted, it's spiraling out of control and we WILL switch and get the hell out of comcast if someone doesn't actually do something.
I’m about to say goodbye to comcast at both households.
-
Inappropriate? Here's my TraceRoute. The problem points to an ATT router in Dallas. Please work with ATT to fix this.

Inappropriate? For all the people claiming it is AT&T's problem because of traceroutes, just remember 1 thing... many of AT&T's servers to not respond to ICMP ping requests, which can appear in a tracert as a failed router. I'm not letting AT&T off the hook... Just playing a bit of devil's advocate.
On another note, I'd suggest going here:
http://www.comcastsupport.com/forms/c...
This email form goes to one of the Big Wigs at Comcast. Anyone going through this form actually gets noticed (personal experience- I got a call back in 3hrs). It skips all the minor tech support garbage, and goes right to the top of customer service. I had a 6 month issue, and after this effort, it was solved in 3 days. -
Inappropriate?A fellow customer from Pittsburgh also experiencing the issue. I am not gonna continue to post the same problems but I am gonna voice my concern. We should not need to continuously call and complain, it should simply be taken care of. This is a known issue obviously and is affecting a huge customer base. Being a WoW fan myself I can tell that these previous posters are not bluffing when they say they will switch providers as I am tempted to do the same.
I’m very upset.
-
Inappropriate?"Immediate solution" should be reworded to say "when we damn well please". Please Comcast and AT&T, resolve this quicker or you'll have to give thousands of people a credit to their account!
I've had many issues with Comcast before with service interruptions, poor customer service, lack of communication. This is just one more strike against you that will make me switch to RCN (in the Chicago market).
I’m very dissappointed with Comcast's service once again!!!

Inappropriate?20 posts per page x 245 pages = 4900 people.
At least 4900 people have this problem, I'm sure a lot more haven't even gone to the tech support forums. Please fix this as soon as possible.
I’m very mad
-
Inappropriate? This is reidiculous. I've been a customer at comcast with thousands of other customers who have played internet intensive games. All of the sudden, it is no longer possible and the people responsible will not own up and resolve/find a way to fix the problem. I along with thousands will most likely be switching to a new IP if a resolution is not found
I’m going to switch IP's
-
Inappropriate?Whatever the fix was Friday night, allowing us to play all day Saturday, should be reapplied today (Sunday) so we can get back ingame.
I’m wondering why this hasn't been done already?
-
Inappropriate? The issues I've been having with Comcast recently are just crazy. Is there even an ETA on a solution yet? Has there even been a diagnosis of the problem?
We would really like answers to some questions. Or the problem fixed (preferably).
I’m dissappointed with Comcast (as usual)
-
Inappropriate?Wether or not this is not directly your fault, it is affect YOUR Customers. After dealing with the disconnects all day on Friday, and now Other Comcast users are reporting, and I am experiencing very high latency problems today. While Qwest DSL customers are not having this problem at all. If this is how my play time is going to work I am very well considring switching to DSL.
I’m pretty annoyed right now
-
Inappropriate? We are working with all parties to determine the cause and find a correction. We hear you and agree. We have our chief engineering team involved as well as those with other networking companies, including AT&T working to figure this out.
We want this resolved! I apologize for the trouble and we do fully understand the passion involved with this. I have members of my team that play WoW and member of the engineering team also participant. We feel the pain. I will provide an update as soon as I have one
Frank
Comcast -
Inappropriate?Well at least they let us know which internet providers dont have trouble providing internet for gamers. Now i know which two not to sign up for next month.
-
Inappropriate?Yeah I've been having troubles with Comcast internet over the past few months and I have to admit it's getting annoying. I know it's not toally their fault...but it seems their customer care could really give a rats ass and just pass the blame instead of being a little more polite about it. I think I may have to drop em sometime soon.
-
Inappropriate? All i know is that I use Comcast and only Blizzard services seem to be affected. Nothing like paying for services you can't use. Kinda like being legally robbed if you ask me because there seems to be little recourse for any of us having this issue to hold anyone accountable. At the very least incompetence is abound.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Thank you for the update Frank. As things progress it would be great to keep this line of communication going.
I’m frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?update - The issue has been traced to an equipment issue with a different company. Replacement of the equipment will occur this afternoon
-
Inappropriate? Its about time someone has finally figured out the problem, and the News is greatly appreciated, Thanks Frank. That is of course unless its just a BS answer to make us all shut up...........
I’m Still hates comcast
-
Inappropriate?Just a question.......
If its another company that had the problem, why was it only affecting your customers?
Ok I lied two questions.
And what are you going to do to make sure this doesnt happen again?
(Qwest DSL is seeming like a pretty good solution to me. Lower monthly service fees, and no problems with connecting.....)
I’m a happy future Qwest customer
-
Inappropriate?Yup, I've gotta say -- If Frank is correct and gets this corrected this afternoon, I'll be quite impressed with Comcast.
I’m undecided.
-
Inappropriate?Frank for Prez!!!!
And would it be possible after this is fixed to explain why this mainly affects Comcast customers who are connecting to servers in Dallas by way of AT&T? -
Inappropriate?I'd be even more impressed if Comcast never allowed another companies' equipment to interfere with thier customers connections......
-
Yah comcast should have dedicated lines to every server... idiot -
Inappropriate? This is ridiculous/outrageous/disgustin. Its been 2 and a helf weeks since my internet has been doing this. Shows how reliable comcast is.. IF THIS ISNT TRULY GOING TO BE FIXED SOON IM GOING TO LEAVE ALONG WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHERS...
I’m SHOCKED
-
Inappropriate?Same problem as the others, high latency and frequent disconnects. We need this repaired now.
I’m angry
-
Inappropriate?I agree I have been a comcast customer for several years with horrible service. If this isn't fixed today or by Monday I will be changing service with EVERYTHING. Including phone service, cable, and highspeed internet.
I’m FUSTRTATED
-
Inappropriate?Well, AT&T is one of the main backbones of the US internet. Blizzard is also leasing their lines through AT&T as reflected by this whois lookup:
Blizzard Entertainment ATTENS-009952-004239 (NET-63-241-254-0-1)
63.241.254.0 - 63.241.255.255
One of AT&T's main US hubs is in Dallas. Time for Bliz to perhaps start looking into new ISP options. Hehe... get your bid books out boys!
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Same problem.
I'm snowed in and would rather be using my Comcast High Speed Internet to play WoW.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I hope they fix it soon this afternoon, This ongoing problem is driving me crazy, I missed a Full Naxx clear, and can't stay in for our sanctum run. Fix your stuff comcast and don't push it off on other companies.
I’m Verizon FIOS here I come
-
Inappropriate?"We have been in communication with Comcast and several other internet backbone and service providers in efforts to isolate and bring to resolution the connectivity issues that have impacted the ability for some Comcast players to play World of Warcraft. As of this morning a 3rd party network who resides between Blizzard's network and Comcast's network informed us that they were experiencing an issue which may be the cause of problems that Comcast players have been experiencing.
We remain in contact with this provider and at this time do not have an ETA but this issue is being looked into by all parties involved. We will continue provide updates as they become available." - Blue -
Inappropriate?But Chuck,
what i dont understand is that why is it only affecting comcast users? (yeah i know ther were a few report of Verizon too, but not nearly in the same nuimbers as Comcast) but people on my server of other ISPs including At&t have not been having the problem........ -
well what may be happening is comcast has a hub or router in Dallis as well and so all comcast subscribers are going form that hub to this dedicated at&t hub. now when the AT&T hub goes down it may be possible to reroute the traffic but that may be around 100s of thousands of people -
Inappropriate?thank you for the response. if we could get another update as soon as you have information on the situation i would appreciate that greatly.
I’m content
-
Inappropriate? It seems to me, Comcast, should have enough power to put pressure on AT&T and others, to fix this issue, since it involves your customers. The answer "its not us, we cant do anything" doesn't fly. YOUR customers are being effected by this. If Chevy makes a car, and ALL Chevy cars are effected by a bad tire problem, they wouldnt say "Its goodyear, not us!" that doesnt fly, when they are driving their cars. Same for here. Its your customers being effected.
-
Inappropriate? So today i was all excited for we planned to get the "gotta go" acheivment today. Planned it in advance, getting the best dps on the servers.. get all ready go and bam 2.3k MS. No way i can do the dps that is need to kill him. Thanks a lot! If this problem isn't fixed gg comcast, hello Verizon!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Come On Comcast or is it AT&T or is it Blizz,
A lot of ticked-off people here, all shouting that they are going to drop service, threatening to flood the customer service lines, crying for some help - How hard does it have to be?
As I read elsewhere - let's form a resistance movement and gather up on those who are seemingly taking their time to bring joy back into our lives. Viva Le Resistance!!
One More Ticked Off Dude (MD)
I’m really, really, really.....
-
Inappropriate?I agree to RDukes Post. In the normal cooperate world Companies pressure their "Partner" Company to fix the issue.
-
Inappropriate?I really wish they would indicate a specific time and issue so that we are more aware...just for information to be spread around to the wow forums.
I’m sad but understanding
-
Inappropriate?Looks like we scared Frank off.....
Nearly an hour and no update from him. -
Inappropriate?you all need to get over it. Comcast does not own the whole internet. It is a "best effort" network. wah wah go read a book.
-
Inappropriate?"As of this morning a 3rd party network who resides between Blizzard's network and Comcast's network informed us that they were experiencing an issue which may be the cause of problems that Comcast players have been experiencing. " - 3rd Party, I'm assuming AT&T ... so you can all relax and keep your current provider as Comcast as they are not the root of this issue.
I’m ready to play WoW
-
Inappropriate?I'm leaving comcast myself. Between them and bad customer service I'm done. I had a girl yell at me and when I spoke to her manager she treated me like I'm an idiot.
I’m frusterated
-
Inappropriate?I've noticed an ongoing decline in performance for several months now. At first it was barely noticable, just a slightly elevated ping. But in more recent times it has become markedly worse, particularly around prime time. Additionally I've noticed an increase in complete service outages over this period, ranging from a few minutes to a few hours in duration. This latest issue is just bringing it all to a head.
I'm glad to hear that a fix is in the works for the immediate issue--it may well save Comcast from losing another customer to FiOS--but what about all the exasperation and degraded service besides? Is work ongoing for that as well?
I'm just so very weary of having to cope with these problems. -
Inappropriate?WTF causes this problem in the first place? Giant rats chewing up cables? Does Comcast just need a Terminex guy? C'mon, Im 4 bars from lvl 80!!!! Fix it NOW!

Inappropriate?Same problems here. Non-stop WoW disconnects. Several weeks of Comcast Internet, phone, and email problems. Until you folks at Comcast get your poop in a group is it really wise to be bragging up your new beta? Let's fix what you have before you start getting creative shall we? My friends before me have made a request, solve thier problem in a quick and timely manner. This is not an unreasonable request for paying customers. My final request or tidbit of advice would be to fire your entire customer call center staff. A history of apathy and rudeness should not be tolerated. Thankfully, TV has been unaffected during this time period. I look forward to your next update Frank.
I’m Frustrated to the Nth degree
-
Inappropriate? Also have the same problems as above. Good to see it's being addressed.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?Johnson,
they may not be the root of the problem. But the problem is affecting thier customers. So in essence it is thier problem.
If I was Comcast you bet I would be looking at immediate solutions. wheter it be finding a way to cut out the 3rd party between Blizzard, or compensating unhappy customers to keep them from leaing to other ISPs. -
Inappropriate?i want to know how much american internet service providers got paid to sell out their existing customers to support some other countries internet problems? I mean we are paying you enough right....obviously not if u pick up their slack and put their crippling internet problems on us.
I’m not playing wow now...GG
-
i agree with myself -
Inappropriate? The problem is not with AT&T servers, the current problem is a transport failure with Savvis servers in the LA area. It is expected to be corrected in the next 2 hours. These things can be difficult to determine due to all the potential servers involved, but with the help of all the companies involved we were able to identify the location and find a correction
-
Would a west coast issue affect east coast users? From the trace routes I have seen, a lot of folks don't pass through servers on the west coast - i.e. in my particular case I go through Washington DC, Atlanta, and then on to Dallas.
Obviously I am not aware of exact routing paths so there may be something going on "behind the scenes". I just find it odd that an LAX server would impact a DCA connection. -
What I find odd is that all Comcast has been doing is stating that it is not thier problem, and not trying to bypass this so called "Sawis Server" problem in LA. -
This seems to be the issue, but I am not sure it would show on a traceroute. I believe it may be a return path. Lets see after the new card is installed and we can chat -
Fair enough answer; trace routes aren't the end-all-be-all of course.
Thanks for the quick response and trying to keep us up-to-date. -
Thanks very much for the reply Frank. -
Alex,
When you go on the internet you travel through numerous servers, it is not a direct connection to the website. That is why when you do a traceroute to a server you see multiple conntection. There is also a return path in which the same thing occurs. -
I'm in Illinois and the WoW server is in Texas, how does this have anything to do with LA? Unless LA means Louisiana? -
Eactly, so why cant you find a route that bypasses the faulty server, instead of just saying it isnt your fault? I"m in Utah and I play on a server located in TX, so with my limited understanding of routing, "why would I have to go 500 miles west to connect to a server that is 400 miles east of me? Its seems a little absurd to me...... -
Because you cant just "reroute" the connection. There are many machines between comcast and blizzard, one in the middle is the problem. for comcast to go around they need to organize and pay a different service provider or something similar to that. they can push the data to another server, but that server needs to accept it as well. its not 1-2-3 its done. if it was a direct connection like me to you then it would be possible to simply reroute it, but even changing routing tables can be a problem, if a mistake is made it can bring a whole region is down, or make the problem worse. To further complicate the matter, lets say they do switch their routing table, whats to say the new route doesnt pass through savvis' servers. you really would have to get to the point before savvis and reroute it, that isnt comcast that has to do that. And even if that is rerouted, what about all the data that goes into or out of that region, they would potentially get cut out too.
The easiest way for this problem to be solved and maintain uptime is to let the company who is having a problem fix it. there are too many variables and if it were all owned by one company it could be managed, but since multiple companies manage it it needs to be done this way.
Forgot to add, if its the "Return" route that goes through savvis, thats even harder to fix, and thats also very likely. Traceroute only shows your route there. -
Ok that makes sense. Still seems a littl absurd to a leyman that you wouldnt try and find the most direct route to something, Its like me planning a trip to NYC from utah, but going to LA on the way, seems a bit out of the way. But I dont know all the technical jargon on why it is the way it is. -
if you found the correction why is the latency still horrible, you said you found it an hour ago -
yeah its been 2 hours...where are my results -
Inappropriate?I spoke to Comcast 4 times these were the answers I received:
1. You are being hacked by a player that doesn't like you
2. Comcast is not responsible for your game play
3. There is no problem
4. Finally one customer service rep said they would at least check into it
Great Service (this is sarcasm) Hope they fix it soon - at least they now realize there is a problem.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?maybe you should just all umm get a life? maybe? theres a whole world out there besides wow. just a thought. not trying to be condescending just stating my opinion
I’m amused
-
Yea and at this very moment your doing what you like to do most which is forum troll (obvioulsy) and bash what everyone else wants to do. You sir are the one who needs a life. -
You mean theres more to life than just the Great awesome pixels that dance upon my computer screen at my request?!!??!?!! -
/finger also -
Inappropriate?Guys, there is a difference between the level 1 support you get when you call and what is being posted here. I'm as frustrated as most are as my main is stuck in Dalaran and cannot logon. Just chill and this will be fixed soon.
I’m frustrated
-
Yep it will all be fixed when Qwest comes out to install my DSL next week. -
Inappropriate? For the money Comcast gets from me, I should not be having this issue. Ever.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Well, I just got off the phone with Comcast. The representative was very helpful and...most importantly....***agreed to provide a $15.00 credit**. I did have to ask for this refund...but he gave it with no hassle at all.
(I suggest all of you with WoW connectivity problems do the same)
This has been an issue for some number of days now. I really wish they would get on this problem.
I’m Irritated
-
Inappropriate?Reimbursement should be provided for lost service time that is paid for to all customers.
I’m frustrated
-
Right..... Like Comcast is gonna just give money out, I had to threaten them with a service disconnect a few months ago before they kindly offered to knock 5 bucks a month off of my 100 dollar bill. -
Perhaps then the issue lies within your approach. Seriously. The guy gave me no problems at all. Just ask politely. -
It isn't 'handing money out' its properly charging customers for a service provided or not provided. If not, they shall lose customers. -
Oh I have been very polite with Comcast in the past, and thier poor customer service has been the exact oppisite.
Lets start from the top.
When my service was first install I stated specificly that I would install the interent myself, and only needed the cable box set up. Well I was at work, and the tech that came insisted to my sister that the Comcast modem I had already purchased would not work, adn he needed to install a rental modem for me. And in doing this he corrupted my system, and as a result I had to reformat my system and reinstall everyrthing (still trying to figure out how he managed to do that)
Then a year later I noticed that they had been billing me for a rental modem that I wasnt using. Granted it was onyl 3 bucks but over a years time that added up, when I called comcast to tell them they stated that they could onyl go back 6 months, even though I had all the statments showing that they had been billing me for over a year.
So frankly I am getting tired of Comcast...... -
I understand your frustrations...but, frankly, they seem ill-rooted.
Starting from the top...
I have never ever heard of a modem installation corrupting a PC. In fact, I'm fairly positive that is impossible. There was more likely a configuration wrong which could have been remedied without a full reformat. Even if the error required a reformat...the problem was still with your PC...not the modem.
I also can't believe it took you a year to review your statement. Billing errors happen. It's not that Comcast sucks so bad...billing errors happen everywhere...especially when a company manages thousands of invoices. You should always review every statement you get (regardless of who the company is) to ensure accuracy.
On both of your points...just because you're a customer does not absolve you of the responsibility to stay informed and aware of what is going on.
It sounds like you would have had the same issues regardless of the provider. -
Exactly I dont know how he did it either. But he did. When I left for work on the day of the install my PC worked just fine, when I got home after he messed with the system it wasnt working. I even took it in to have it looked at, and they said they could probably fix whatever he did, but it would be easier and cheaper to reformat and reinstall.
yeah it was my bad for not noticing it. on the billing breakdown i thought the charge was the stupid charges, fees, and taxes that all the companies charge, it was only when I looked at the detailed bill that I saw it was the modem rental fee.
I just get sick of Comcasts attitude. When I called this morning to see if they had an update, the Rep was rather rude in his reply. "Well I'm sorry we dont have an update on the problem, but your gaming connection speed is not our problem" -
Alex,
That attitude from the representative was unacceptable. It is our problem if our Customers are not having the experience they are expecting. I apologize for that. -
Well thanks, but honestly is not unexpected to recieve a responce like that when dealing with customer care, thats why I try to exaust all possible solutions on my own before dialing 1-800-Comcast.
The honest reason on why I keep putting up with it is there isnt a telephone port in the room where my computer is, and I dont want to put up with the hassle of putting one in, or setting up a Wireless network. Otherwise I would have gone to Qwest months ago. -
Inappropriate?just for the record, it rly is an ATT server causing the problems.
if u go to the wow thread and look at the traces all of them are dropping at ~.attens.net.~ which is ATT -
It looks like equipment with Savvis not AT&T. It is just showing that way on the traceroutes. That is what makes this difficult to assess. -
Its not an AT&T problem. Trace routes are not the end all of finding problems. It can only help determine where a problem lies, and its not with AT&T. -
ok well SOMEWHERE between that server and wherever it's trying to route to is a problem of some sort afaik. not necessarily with that server though yes i didn't think that through entirely -
Inappropriate? This webpage has been posted on the WoW forums. I'm warning you now Comcast. It's about to explode.
-
Inappropriate? If the problem is in Los Angeles, why are the Dallas servers being affected as well? I'm connecting from Dover, NH.
-
The internet is not "point A to B". there are lots of connecting points in between. if you do a traceroute you'll find that just in your ISPs network you get sent across the country at least once, no matter where you go on the internet. there are only a limited number of major routes that can handle massive amounts of bandwidth (what we call backbone routes).
Think of it like this, you have to take just train tracks to go from point A to B. well what if there are 1000 times the number of trains, and the same number of tracks. well now you would have to take not the most direct route, but the route that has the most # of tracks and can support the most trains. in this case to get to dallas you are passing through a gateway in la.
believe me when it comes to these things it doesnt matter where the route is, it only matters if its working or not -
To add to what Enthalpy has said -- the return path is not always the same either. You may not pass through LA to get there, but they may send you to LA to get back (if I understand it correctly; I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am wrong!). -
Ah, I see now in my tracert that the latency starts to rapidly increase when a server in Garden Grove, CA is pinged. 40 minutes from LA. -
Inappropriate?WELL COMCAST MUST BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM.............. SINCE AS OF THIS MORNING I AM ALSO AFFECTED BY THE HIGH LATENCY AND DISCONNECTING ISSUES. I WASN'T B4 THIS MORNING. SO WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING IS MAKING IT WORSE FOR MORE CUSTOMERS. THIS WON'T BE FORGOTIN'. THIS BEING ONGOING FOR PEOPLE ALL WEEKEND, AND NOW SPREADING HAS SEVERELY SCARED THE CUSTOMER AND INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER RELATIONSHIP FOR ME. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY COMPANY PROVIDING TV, INTERNET AND PHONE ANYMORE.
GG comcast
WE WILL NEVER FORGET THIS!
I’m a very sad panda

My issues only began today as well. -
Inappropriate?q_q
my car is under a mound of snow.. i cant go anywhere..
i just wanna play wow.
lol...
I’m so freaking bored!
-
Mine too! Wanna go make a snowman? -
Inappropriate? Please people...stay rational. There is no need to spam or scream in all caps. There are undoubtedly things going on that we don't see. With that said....a post from the WoW forums by Azidonys:
"For all of you who do not know, this is a GLOBAL ISSUE.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/...
This is a very partial report. For more information, go to associatedpress.com and search for internet outage information. No, you won't find it on the 10 o clock news. Welcome to America, where the only world news we actually report is political propaganda. You actually have to go to British and other news sources not on this continent in order to get real world news.
In summary, 3 of 4 of the major fiber optic lines which run under the Atlantic have been severally damaged. As a result, the Middle East is having heavy problems with Internet connectivity, and Egypt is pretty much a blackout. They are not the only areas effected. In order to assist with the problem, several United States based companies, mainly phone companies such as AT&T have been rerouting traffic through the United States. They are doing this to help other countries keep some sort of Internet service, at the unfortunate cost of our Internet service having to suffer. However, they pretty much have to do it, as phone companies own 2 of the 4 lines. (Please correct me if the real facts are amiss.)
So you see, it's not Blizzard being lazy and trying to mess up our holidays. It's not Comcast being lazy and messing with our bandwidth. It's not AT&T being lazy and laughing at us while they drink hot cocoa at home not doing a thing about it. It IS all of these companies and more working diligently to fix a GLOBAL Internet "crisis".
In the meantime, with the traffic being rerouted through the United States, many servers and networks are getting MUCH more traffic than they are built for. That is causing our disconnections and such. For an extremely crude analogy, the plumbing is clogged. The plumbing is designed to allow passage to a certain amount of traffic in a certain manner, and now it has an immense increase in the traffic. Thus, it gets clogged. In a real life example, your toilet backs up. In the Internet world, you get disconnected, "pushed out" of the pipeline.
I hope this explanation helps. Thanks again to everyone who is providing their traceroutes and links to the various news events to go along with this catastrophe. Thank you to Blizzard who is giving us updates. In short, thanks to everyone who is providing a constructive effort in order to help with this phenomenal and unforeseen issue. " -
As was mentioned by Comcast (in this very thread), this is a hardware issue with Savvis, not an issue with fiber optics being wrecked by ship anchors 6000 miles away. -
I hope not. To think the GLOBE would have to wait for scuba divers to electric-tape wires together next to SHARKS! -
That...would be awesome imo. -
IF this is realistic, which is questionable, Why didn't AT&T and others anticipate the surge that would be placed on the lines and setup temporary trunks to route the information through? I'm sorry, but if *I*, a corporate IT support tech understands enough about this to consider this, how is it that these college grad CISCO certified genious' with AT&T can't figure it out? And FYI, If they're fiber lines, that are severed, they're not taping anything, they're laying new lines. -
Inappropriate?now i cant even log onto the servers before I could and Id get booted now I cant even do that.
I’m dying inside
-
Inappropriate?i like how people are like FIX THIS NOW!!!! with out knowing what it would take to fix it. if it is a hardware issue its not like they can go to best buy and get a new router or have a multi-thousand dollar piece of hardware sitting in a supply closet. makes me laugh
I’m amused
-
Someone go do a hardware audit on the servers and racks, quit skimping the QA budget and you wont have these problems! -
I think I have an old US Robotics 56k modem in the storage room they could borrow.... -
lolwut @ multi thousand... L2Speak nub -
Inappropriate?yeah now I get booted right after load...
This is insane
I’m wanting a new internet provider
-
Why are you even trying to play? go do something for the next 2-3 hours while they fix it. -
Inappropriate?this is crazy, i am surprised this is not fixed yet, for such a problem on this scale this should be their top priority. i am just about to grab my cell phone internet USB thing off my dad laptop, maby it will do better.
and if this is a problem with another company, you should still give them all the help you can, this may be another company, but its another company you trusted.
I’m thinking about swiching.
-
Inappropriate?I cant take it anymore, I was going to sit around and play WoW but now it looks like I have to go wreak havoc on the city with boozing and loose women.......
I’m A sad panda

Inappropriate?*sniffle sniffle*
Greetings unhappy WoW customers. Alvin the upset chipmunk here and I couldn't be more irritated than the rest of you. While everyone is out questing in Northrend, I enjoy roaming around Elwynn forest burying my nuts for the winter season. I miss you all dearly and I hope that once this is all resolved that you will come outside Stormwind and say hello. My second cousin Edwin was aboard Continental flight 503 to Fort Wayne when suddenly he had the urge to use the restroom and was sucked down the toilet and outside the plane. His body, now in its wet condition floated down into the power lines of the AT&T headquarters and upon impact he exploded taking the main reactor cable with him. I'm not really upset about the whole matter, since we were never really close and at every family reunion he'd never show. In any event, I apologize on his behalf and I hope that the issue is resolved quickly. Please come visit when power is restored. I love you all.
Fondly,
Alvin
I’m making funeral arrangements

Inappropriate? This is unacceptable, why am i paying good Money to both Comcast and blizzard to not get online....seriously, if this problem is not fixed soon (today) i will be cancelling my comcast digital cable and broadband service and go to a better, more professional company.
-
Inappropriate? This sucks....was fine yesterday but it is horrible today. Looking into Qwest as much as I hate them.
-
Inappropriate?DSL DSL DSL DSL
i bet qwest would make a zillion dollars if they would just install today
I’m done
-
Inappropriate?Do you people not even read the posts before you spout your complaints? The problem does not belong to Blizzard or Comcast, but a 3rd party through which the traffic flows. Comcast has and is keeping us up-to-date on the resolution. What more can they do? Stop whining, read what others have already posted and wait it out like the rest of us.
-
ok Sigh, here is the thing, comcast trusted this 3rd party and its their responsibility, and if this 3rd party company is preforming sub par, comcast needs to help or get a new 3rd party company. what i am saying is, its still comcasts problem -
And here is the "think". Comcast is working to get this resolved with the 3rd party. Tracing and replacing hardware doesn't happen in minutes. It takes time. And are they performing sub-par? They had a hardware failure. And on a Sunday they are working on resolving the issue. -
Im tired of waiting. Also stop defending a multi million dollar corporation i think they can take a little flaming.Besides they dont need people like you giving them a pat on the back when the problem is still not fixed. Wether u like it or not it is only affecting Comcast/verizon customers so it does have something to do with them and they do have a responsibility to do something about it. -
Inappropriate?between my cable being shit and these problems, can anyone suggest a better alterantive for internet/cable tv in the seattle area? thanks!
I’m pisst
-
Inappropriate?On a side note.
i have been rather impressed with Frank toady. He has done I fine job with dealing with the bouts of nerd rage and frustration coming from me, and others. And yeah while it does suck that WoW is poop right now. He has a least been doing his best to keep everyone informed, eventhough he himself is not resposible for the server provblem/fix.
Kudos to you Frank, and my suggestion is that Comcast just gets rid of the crappy Customer Care Dept, and we all just call Frank.
I’m happy with Frank, he needs a raise....
-
Inappropriate?2:32PM, my lag is down to 381MS and dropping, hopefully it gets back down to the 50-150 range it use to be but thank you for final resolving this issue.
I’m happy its fixed
-
Inappropriate?hmm, mines seems to be fixed to, 1535 EST, Kael'thas server but we'll see for how long
