Inappropriate? It usually is not more money, it just requires a box. Channels move from analog to digital because we can provide 10-12 digital channels and 2-3 HD channels for each analog channel. In areas where this is happening they are offering a free box for 12 months.

The fact is that Comcast does not HAVE to switch these analog channels to digital, but is doing so under the guise of the Feb. 2009 switchover for OVER THE AIR signals. You know, the one's received by rabbit ears.
And the fact is that the digital box DOES cost more money because one is required to pay a monthly fee for each television connected. Comcast is simply waiving that $3 monthly fee for the first year because the company knows that few will notice the fee when it kicks in.
So, for every television you have in your home with cable directly connected (no box), unless the television has an ATSC tuner built in (read: the TV is newer than 3 - 4 years old), you'll need to pay for a box. Even if you have digital cable, if it is connected directly to the television you will need to pay. Say you have four TV's in your house right now -- one with a box, and 3 directly connected. If you want those 3 televisions to receive a signal, you will be paying $9+ per month for a box. -
Inappropriate? How much more do I have to pay to use Comcast. Already I pay over $50.00 a month just for cable alone. As a Senior Citizen, I guess I will have to go back to the Radio. I was told that no change would be necessary for the Ditigit, now I am told that I will need a box. What is going on. Why not tell the truth in the beginning. How much will this digital eventually cost a customer? This sucks

Inappropriate?Birdies are telling me Comcast will drop analog or free digital support (read_ without require a box) for all but the very basic tier next February. There is no technical reason other than to push more crap at customers. Clearly, Comcast is on a crusade to make me read more because I will disconnect my cable service before I accept any sort of 'box' other than a cablecard I can plug into my Tivo
I’m pissed

Actually there is a technical reason for channels to move to digital. There is high demand for HD channels. For every analog channel we can have 10-12 digital or 3 HD. At this time,it is necessary to make adjustments to provide the HD channels that are in demand. In the areas that we have announce this there is no added fees, in fact for most packages at least 1 free box will be provided as well as free digital to analog adapters. -
Inappropriate?I can buy that Comast might need room for a few more HD channels, but in our area they are getting rid of channels 35-82. This would allow them to launch 144 HD channels or over 480 more digital channels. Pardon me, but I don't think there is any way they are adding this many more channels. More troubling to me is that they are doing this at a time when much of the public is already confused about on-air analog going away. Most anywhere you look you find messaging that if you have cable you won't need to change anything to continue with your service.
Well this certainly is not true if you are a comcast customer. My elderly parents are already stressed out over having to get cable. They were just set up so that they could still use the same remotes using extended basic. Now they will need to get a box and learn to use the comcast remote. And yes, I will get calls every few days when the TV is switched from channel 3 and nothing works anymore. Too bad we are locked into one cable provider.

Inappropriate?Comcast is run by the GOP. We just got our new lineup which doesn't have MSNBC and Comedy Central. And if this is all about viewers which lead to money, then how did FBN get in there. ComcastCares my azz!!!

Inappropriate?Wow ... I didn't notice MSNBC is no longer on Comcast until I stumbled across this. I had already removed it from my preferred channel list.
