DTA Issues. Missing Channels and Pixelation.
My DTA's (Digital Transport Adapters) are not recieving majority of channels and ones that do come in have terrible picture disruption/pixelation. Even after multiple resets from Comcast Agent over the phone these boxes still do not get all channels. As if there is not enough signal strength. Does Anyone have this same problem or know why this is happening?

Inappropriate? They converted us to digital yesterday, the DTAs just don't work at all. Missing channels and once everyone gets home from work, pixelation and interruptions in the channels that DO work. The interesting thing is that every box has different missing channels. Go figure.
Called comcast, they said they want to come out to make sure the boxes are hooked up right. I'm an electronics technician, I know they are hooked up properly. Sounds like a bandwidth issue for the pixelation to me, because it doesn't happen on weekdays when the majority of people aren't home.
I am thinking it is time to ditch comcast entirely, their customer service stinks and they think we are all morons and will continue to pay for a service that is just not there anymore. Not to mention they told us that if they have techs come out they can't guarantee they won't charge us for the visit. Give me a break, you break the service we had before the conversion and expect the customer to foot the bill for fixing it?????
I’m angry

Your right, the pixelation started at 5:00PM when people are home to turn on their TV's!!!!I have a brand new larger cable with a signal booster! The Tech just tested my line 3 days ago and said we have excellent signal strength. So, now I wait again for 6 days for another Tech to come out. This will be the 7th visit in less than 2 months!!!!!!!!!!! -
Inappropriate?Yeah, Im with ya.
A friend of mine had to have a tech come out for this same problem. It seems to be a signal strength issue and they'll either have to put in new cable (possibly larger/newer cable from the street to your house) and have to put a signal booster on the line, possibly. These DTA's are really touchy when it comes to signal strength and old line and the length of that line. Suffice to say, Im having a tech come out tomorrow to get this over with. By the way, I am also a computer/electronics tech so I do now a little bit myself. Hope this works out for everyone. Peace -
I have six televisions and have only found two rooms that have adequate signal strength to support these DTA boxes of which I have two. Comcast is coming out today and I told the help desk person to make sure the tech brings out an amplifier/signal booster to see if that rectifies the problem. By the way these are not isolated problems - it is widespread. I had no problems with the old analog channels. I did try an amplifier from Radio Shack but it didn't work, but then there seems to be a high failure rate for these units too. The rollout of these boxes should have warned us about potential signal strength issues. I don't feel that I should have to pay for extra for service I am already paying for. -
Inappropriate?I fixed our problem with a bi-directional amp from Radio Shack, if anyone else is having this issue it's probably your signal strength...don't let comcast tell you they need to rewire your whole house like they did to a friend of ours...try the kiss method and see if it works first. Good luck to everyone

I tried two types of amplifiers and neither one worked, so I told Comcast to bring out their own amplifier today. -
Inappropriate?Yes, we did what we were told and got our boxes, installed on all TVs, had the problems all weekend that everyone else is having, talked to Comcast support twice, did what we were told to do, helped a little and now we can't see half of the channels we are supposed to get. SOOOO frustrating - channels look like a bad DVD with scratches all over it!!!
I’m ANGRY!!

Inappropriate?Installed 3 DTA and they worked fine. The next day one was still working, one was missing channels and had scrambled pictures and the other did not work at all. Comcast offered to send out a technician, but would not guanantee that I would not be charged, and it would be a week before a technician could come out. Tried to cancel my service but gave up after waiting for 30 minutes for someone in their "retention" department. Very bad experience.
I’m angry also

Inappropriate?Ever since I installed the DTA most channels are so pixelated that they eventually put up the message "Your service has been interrupted...". My ESPN and NBC channels (3 & 4, respectively) don't have volume any more. I was trying to watch the Yankees/Red Sox game this past weekend and I couldn't hear anything. But the funny thing is, certain commercials during the game had volume crystal clear! Then the game would come back on and poof! There goes my volume again.
I hate this DTA. Comcast made me get it and I get the feeling they made them cheap just so I'd have to put down an extra whatever amount of dollars a month to get another cable box.
I’m very frustrated

Inappropriate?nitrusoxide, try pressing the language button at the bottom of your DTA remote to fix your volume problem. i've had the same problem multiple times, and it's because the button is accidentally pressed, which puts it into Spanish mode. most channels don't have a Spanish version, and just include the English language on that audio channel, or in your case, nothing at all. hope that helps.

Inappropriate?i don't have comcast anymore. got dish network it great and cheap go with dish network

Inappropriate?A bidirectional amplifier from Radio Shack solved the pixelation and loss of channels problem I had BEFORE getting 3 DTAs. I have a long run through the basement and the signal splits to 4 TVs, my computer Windows Media Center DVR, a networked digital tuner and the cable modem. My signal is still OK after installing the DTAs. I put the DTAs on the 3 analog tuner TVs. The networked tuner allows me to watch from any home computer. In general I am happy with Comcast but the DTAs should have also had a component video out instead of just the low resolution RF output. The DTAs and their remotes should have had a delete channel function. Instead of being able to surf just the 20 or so channels I am interested in I have to waste time skipping over another 80 or so.
