Explorer 8300 HDC is total crap.
Explorer 8300 HDC. My god almighty, why can I not get one of these things that can perform for more than a couple of weeks without problems. I believe I am now currently on my 4th or 5th box in a year. My current issues...
If I'm recording something, certain HD channels are completely unwatchable.
Explosions on recorded programs, with massive special fx, can often freeze the box completely requiring reboot.
Every couple of days the "info" is missing for programs. Requires reboot.
Basically, I'm rebooting my machine every couple of days. Total crap. I'm writing this to rant only at this point, as I'm ripping the box out of the wall and going down to the office and replacing it again. This will be the last time I'm going to go through this. I'm really disappointed. When you consider the fact that Direct TV has better quality HD, more HD channels, and a DVR that holds more data and people rave about, I'm quickly losing my desire to continue with Comcast.

Inappropriate? So, I return my box to the office here in Cape Coral, Florida, and the CSR at the desk nearly made me cancel my account. As I ran down the list of problems I'm having with the the HD DVR, he pulls well rehearsed excuses out of his pocket for each issue. Everything is blamed on someone other than Comcast or the box itself. Basically, he argued with me, which is horrible from a customer service view.
The freezing up of programs during high special fx explosions? It's the sci fi channel and USA network sending a virus like signal to my tv to screw up dvr recording to discourage people from not watching shows live. I explained to him that it was happening on live shows as well, and he just mumbled something as he walked away and got me another box.
Another box, it seems, that looks well used. Probably another problem box returned by someone else. Ugh...
My recordings ending early? The clock is messed up. He assures me that many people are having problems with the shows ending 2 minutes early. Again, he mumbles when I tell him I'm missing up to 10 minutes sometimes, for no reason.
I really left the office in anger, with 6 or 7 people applauding me as I voiced my opinion about switching to satellite.
My sister, last year, went through 6 of these boxes before switching to satellite. If I continue to have to reboot this box every other day, call customer support and hear nothing but excuses, or deal with the office csr telling me that something must be wrong with my signal strength, even though someone was out from Comcast 6 months ago to check that and found no problems.
He even blamed all of my pixelation issues on the HD channels on signal strength...and refused to discuss the fact that they are compressing their signal to the point of destroying the quality (an issue I believe will be resolved as the network is upgraded).
Highly annoyed and very disappointed with customer service. They're pushing me away.
