Fastforwarding NBC shows skips to the end
When I try to fastforward through NBC shows such as The Office, it skips to the end of the show after just a few seconds of fast forwarding.

Inappropriate?I have this exact same problem. It only happens on NBC and comcast claims they don't know what is causing it. They got us a new box, but that did absolutely nothing. Have you found any solve to this problem.
-
Inappropriate?I also have this issue. It is so frustrating that last night I was on the brink of canceling my whole Comcast subscription. Why can't you fix this? It only impacts NBC programs so there must be some coding in those shows that causes this. Should be easy to correct.
-
Inappropriate? What is MOST frustrating to me is that everyone at Comcast I have spoken to claims to have never heard about this issue with NBC. They keep wanting me to get a new box, because that "must be the issue". I called and went off telling them to put this issue in their database so that they don't need to put more people thru the ringer with trying to uselessly solve this issue. I did however find a good way around this issue by hacking my remote to now have a 30 sec skip button. Great way around the problem.
hack here:

Inappropriate?Thank you jON for that hack. I just set up my remote for 30-sec. skip and it works great. I tested it on a recording of Southland (NBC) and I was able to skip right through the commercials. Thanks again.

Inappropriate?Hi Josh, Jon, and Randi.
This is the first time I've heard about the issue with NBC and our DVR. I'll look into it for you. Can you guys please email our team at We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com with the phone number associated with your account? I want to see if this is a regional or national issue. We'll be in touch once we get your information.
Thanks,
Melissa Mendoza

Melissa, I can tell you that this is not just a regional issue. I am in Portland, OR, and I hear about this problem constantly. My wife has also mentioned that this happens from time to time. It seems like it only happens with the Motorola DVR's, but it is definitely an issue that needs to be resolved. -
Inappropriate? We've had this problem as well, but with more than just NBC. Comcast changed our box this morning and the first program we recorded on the new box did it. We also find it skips to the beginning of the program when rewinding. This seems to be a recent problem - what software/firmware updates were recently downloaded to our machines?

Inappropriate?Hi Melissa,
Thanks for your response. However, I'm not satisfied with it. If I wanted to have this discussion with Comcast in private via e-mail, I would have called or emailed the company. I'd prefer to continue the discussion in this forum. If the next step in finding a solution that would allow me to use the fastforward function on my DVRed NBC programs is obtaining the phone number associated with my account, then please have Frank Eliason (@comcastcares) message me on Twitter @joshjaffe.
What I'd like to know is whether or not NBC is paying Comcast extra to prevent people from fastforwarding through the ads when people watch NBC shows on a Comcast DVR?
Please let me know.

Josh, I can assure you that NBC is NOT paying comcast to cause fast forwarding issues on the DVR's. This issue happens across all channels, as I have verified this myself on my own HD DVR. -
In looking at Melissa's account, it seems that having people email We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com is the "solution" to any and all problems (to the tune of 271 replies in the past year). However, when most of these issues also concern customer service, I don't know that contacting customer service via email is going to help. In fact, I probably wouldn't call this type of reply adequate customer service either. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, opus. What other shows has it happened for you on?
-
It has happened on multiple shows, It doesn't have anything to do with the shows or channels you have recorded, it has to do with the firmware and hardware inside those DVR's. It's a motorola issue that they are aware of and trying to fix. Remember, this technology is only a few years old, and like with anything new, it's gonna take some time before all the kinks are ironed out. -
Inappropriate?Same thing happens to me...and I've only noticed it on NBC. Can Comcast work this out PLEASE? If NBC is causing the problem, it is still Comcast's responsibility to make it work. "Frustrated" does not begin to explain how I feel...
I’m pissed off!

Inappropriate?I have the same issue, up and down the dial. it's especially disheartening when watching sports. I was 45 minutes behind the live Wimbledon final when BAM it skipped me to the conclusion of the match (which WAS on nbc..but it happens elsewhere).

Inappropriate?I just tried to watch an NBC program I put on the DVR last night. Everytime I tried to fast forward to skip through the commercial it would go to the end. And when I tried to rewind a few seconds it goes to thebeginning!!! This is absolutely unacceptable and I am going to make a complaint to the Better Business Bureau in South Florida. I would urge everyone else with this problem to do the same. This not only happens on NBC but on HBO, Showtime , ABC and CBS. Why am I paying over $160. a month for this??This is not a new problem with Comcast, so don't let anyone tell you they are workin g on it and it's Motorolo's problem. I don;t make my payments to Motorola. Sick of substandard service and increasing charges. For what? Unbelievable.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. After waiting on the phone for a customer service person, who of course, never heard of this problem she suggested I get a technician to my house. Been there, done that and it does not get fixed. I have to rewind to the beginning and only fast forward it two arrows. It takes so long to get to where you want it to go on this speed that I usually give up and call comcast again. Does anyone at Comcast care? I have internet (which is a whole other issue in itself) and cable, hbo, dvr, etc. Working on switching this weekend, can't stand it anymore. Looks like this has been a problem for a long time and Comcast hasn't done anything to fix it let alone communicated this to their customer service team. I found this website and I it is very apparent that Comcast has some serious issues. Totally switching after reading all these comments, that is the only way you can fix it,

Inappropriate? From my experience, I believe it is NBC purposefully doing something to trip up DVR recordings of their programming. I started having this problem about 8 months ago, and it only happened on NBC shows, AND I was NOT on Comcast, I was on a small regional provider in Coral Springs, FL called Advanced Cable. For a long time I was blaming the small cable company, wishing I was back on Comcast. Then I moved, now I have Comcast again, and the same problem persists, and for me, IT IS ONLY ON NBC shows. I record plenty of other HD programs on ABC, CBS, etc., and almost never have a problem with those. With NBC, almost always have a problem with REW/FF. Right now I am trying to watch a recording of Sunday Night Football, and it keeps skipping to the end, which ruins the experience. It is not consistent on the same recording, sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not. The FF2 speed on NBC shows is also a problem, it starts off really fast, then slows down. This never happens on other channels. I have the same problem on CNBC, another NBC channel. I hope someone organizes some type of boycott or class action against NBC, No wonder they are in last place!
-
Inappropriate? Why not just use the page up/down to advance 5 minutes, and then use the arrow to go back 15 seconds if necessary. You can also progam your remote to advance 30 seconds.
-
none of those work, thus its a problem!!!
Since this original post, it was found by comcast to be a known issue and they are working on it. -
Inappropriate? They aren't as much a "fix" as they are a way around it. But I guess you have to do what you have to do when you are locked into one choice of a cable provider, Comcastopoly.
-
Inappropriate? One way around that i found is you have to hit the fast forward or rewind button 2 times within 2 seconds of each other. Basically press release and press again. This almost always works. This issue only happens to me with NBC and the tv show Heroes.
-
Inappropriate?i am so glad I googled this bc it was totally frustrating me!! it happens when you fast forward and rewind, but not every time. and when i purposely tried to make it go to the end of the show, or the beginning, of course I couldn't. so I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.... even tho my NBC show is the only one that does this. But now I know it's a real problem. I have comcast and I live in san jose, ca
I’m slightly annoyed
