Picture in Picture function (PIP) compatability with Digital Cable
I have two TVs that are picture in picture (PIP) ready; however, I am unable to get the function to work with my Comcast Digital Cable service. Calling into the customer service area left me with more questions than answers. I could sure use some expertise on how to get this funtion working once and for all through both TVs. I am also a bit disappointed that the technicians who originially installed our service would not have programmed the PIP function to work properly.

Inappropriate? In order to that you would need 2 boxes. What I recommend instead of 2 boxes is using a splitter and have the coax go into one input of the TV and the other going to the box. This way you can take advantage of the functionality of your team for many of the channels.

Inappropriate?Hi Brian,
It sounds like you're having a similar problem as my father. He just upgraded his comcast service to the latest digital cable box. He has an older television (Sony trinitron model 35566) and his PIP won't work since the hook up. Comcast has also given him the run around. It doesn't seem like they know the answer to this question. Why would the PIP feature be on the remote if it doesn't work?
I'd be interested in you receive any more information. Thanks

Inappropriate? The cable runs to their cable box. You choose one and only one channel at a time for the box to send to the TV.
If you get a cable card then you connect the cable directly to your TV. Then your TV is receiving all the channels in your package and it's the TV's tuner that determines what you are watching. With two-tuner picture-in-picture you can switch between viewing those two channels. With the cable box the small picture will be the same as the big picture.
The downside to the cable card arrangement is that you loose the interactive abilities such as pay-per-view.
Comcast doesn't really seem to like making this fact known when they are selling cable packages.
By renting a cable box and a cable card you could split the cable and sent the signal to the TV via two inputs and have the best of both worlds, at an additional cost for the rental.
Personally I think Comcast is evil and I wouldn't mind seeing them run out of business through free market competition. But there generally is no free market competition in cable. -
Inappropriate?Tell Comcast we don't want your junk. The qam tuner in my tv is better than your crappy box and let the lawsuits begin. I thought this issue was solved 20 years ago.
