SA 8000HD DVR crashed;error msgs included;is SA 8300HD DVR available from Comcast in Houston

My SA 8000HD DVR gave me an "unrecoverable write error" not long after our power came back up after a 2-week outage here in Houston. We had been having problems with it not recording programs off and on for about 6 months before that. I have done all the tips and tricks suggested for reformatting the DVR's hard drive. Now, instead of getting the "unrecoverable write error" I've been getting a message that my recorder is being checked--but I've been getting that message for days.
Is it time to exchange my DVR? If so, will it be another SA 8000HD or is Houston finally getting the SA 8300HD DVRs?
