Why can Comcast restrict speeds on certain types of downloads?
I can download from websites at a very high speed. I mean speedtest.net allows me to hit 30mb/s since I just recently called and told them this problem, and they bumped me up to the highest rated service to test this for a week.
When I use torrent software and download legal software I am capped at 1.4 mb/s I have tried this at many different houses in my city, and no matter how many good connections I have to download from their is no way I can download faster than that. Isn't it illegal to manage your network to do so from the FTC?
It just seems I'm paying for max download speeds, and that I should be able to obtain these speeds under any protocol. I really feel comcast customers should do a class action law suit because of this. They are advertising speeds that are only available with http downloads, and are not able to restrict their network like this...

Inappropriate?I am capped at 1.4 mb/s at friends houses in the same town or other areas and in different states such as mass. I live in NH... I have a decent router that can easily handle up to 1024 different connections, and they can obviously send me more than 1.4 mb/s but no matter what happens it capps at that speed.

SNR: 35.3 dB
there is obviously no problem with the modem or router. It is so obvious that with other torrent clients or using many different trackers that it will not let me above this speed, but for normal http downloads i can reach huge speeds....
I really doubt that any troubleshooting will help this problem, and the basic fact is that i am paying for a download speed that isn't available unless it's a you tube video or a download through a web browser. It's not clearly stated that this speed will never be able to be obtained with torrent programs. -
Inappropriate?This could easily be related to the upload speed of the server you are connecting to. We take a protocol agnostic approach to network management which is outlined in the link above. Also network management is not a constant and only impact for minutes when node is overloaded. I am confident that you will find this is most likely the server you are accessing. Many torrents are also peer driven, which means they may have an upload of 1 mb or close to it.
