Why is my internet connection dropping every FEW minutes?
I am having a problem with my Comcast internet service. I have had the Comcast service for a few years and the problem just started maybe a month or two ago. My internet connection keeps dropping every few minutes. It occassionally works when I "repair" the local area connection but not always; sometimes I have to reboot the computer. The lights on the modem stay on when the connection drops. There is no router. I did the packet test (ping -n 100 www.google.com). There is no packet loss, the maximum time was 26ms and the average was 15ms. Please help me?

Inappropriate?Just curious Edie, has Comcast corrected your issue. I am still having problems, even after a few tech visits and going through their so-called esclation process to get solutions. It's only job security by not solving and just keeping all of us hostage until a better deal comes up.

Inappropriate?I just got service and I'm having these issues. There could be numerous issues with the service. Any network device between your cable modem , to their core network could be the culprit, Even if they send a few techs out those field techs have basically no access to the network devices past your cable modem. Most of the time they can't even get into the local junction box and check out the equipment there. 75% of field techs have no advanced knowledge of the inner workings of the network.
Try using another computer to weed out the possiblity it might be yours. Remove any network devices that belong to you ie routers/switches/hubs that stand between your computer and the cable modem. If that fails, then its on Comcasts side. -
Inappropriate?I've had two techs come out here. They didn't actually do anything. They checked the speed on some website. One guy changed out the splitter on the floor. Nothing was changed on the computer. Nothing was checked on the modem, I guess because they kept saying they were connecting to my modem fine.
Over time, the drops have been less frequent. Now I can go days without a drop. However, when the problem does start up again it is continuous. I was told that it may be that my network card needs to be replaced. Honestly, I've been trying to look up the type of network card I have so that I can go and find a replacement but the sites I keep finding sound so convoluted that I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help me with this?

Inappropriate?Well, network cards are pretty standard, you should be looking for any Ethernet network card try looking for a 1000 Mbps which is a 1Gigabit network card. You'll commonly see 10/100/1000.
For example.

Try newegg or tigerdirect for starters to get a basic idea of the card you want then try froogle.com to narrow your price. Network cards tend to be fairly cheap.
Although I still think its a Comcast issue but hey its worth a shot. -
Inappropriate?Make sure you choose which interface you want PCI or PCI-E (now be careful on this) PCI-E is the newer standard mostly used for high end systems like video cards. Most computers only have 1-2 PCI-E slots. You really don't need the PCI-E version so go for PCI.

Inappropriate?there throttling there customer who use 60% of there bandwith and are well below the 250GB cap and not telling you, just contact the BBB and FCC and be done with it
