Why is there such a lack of HD content in Northern NJ?
I'm served out of the Comcast of Union system, a part of the Freedom Region.
It's been over a year since we've seen any new national HD channel (like Discovery, Science, etc) added to our lineup (that was NGC HD, TBS HD, and another one that I can't remember off the top of my head). We have, however, seen SNY-HD, NFL HD, MSG and MSG+ HD.
Where's all these national HD channels that these other systems in Jersey have? We only have 27 HD channels I believe, while every single other system in NJ (South or North Jersey) has more. Even Philadelphia has more...why!? I have 2 HDTVs but refuse to get an HD box for my second HDTV because there just isn't any linear HD content worth watching...because Comcast refuses to add any new channel in our system. And I do mean refuse...we've put in requests numerous times, we have the second highest HDTV set penetration rate in the NATION and yet we have the least amount of HD content available to us.

Inappropriate?Sansri88,
Thanks for reaching out and for the feedback. As more channels are migrated over to digital format, we are adding new HD channels. For every 1 analog channel on the system, we can fit up to 10-12 standard definition digital channels and 2-3 HD channels. As more space becomes available in your area, we will be adding more HD channels to the line up.
Kind Regards,
Melissa Mendoza

Yes, I understand the analog repos...and there's a new mux system that Comcast should be implementing Q1 09 that allows for 15:1 mux for sd channels.
The thing that concerns me is the fact that our system hasn't removed any analog channel (except Style a week ago) for over a year. Yeah, they removed the Sports overflow channel in August..but that's it. There's been no action by our region to remove analog channels, and there's been no response to our concerns. Comcast just doesn't understand that we're the base of their revenues, the high "rollers" so to speak.
I hope Comcast knows us HD subscribers aren't fools...and that we won't take this lack of action lightly. Customers are leaving in droves in Northern Jersey because of FiOS, and I will hopefully be one of those next year if Comcast doesn't pick up their game.
I'm just looking for something substantive, some kind of time line, anything! Nothing generic like the crap we've heard for over the last year. -
Inappropriate?sansri88,
you're lucky to get 27 channels. I'm down in the Medford area of South Jersey and we get a whole whopping 25 channels and four of those are pay-movie channels.
Here's my lineup:
200 Comcast Sportsnet HD
202 ESPN HD
203 ESPN 2 HD
204 TNT HD
205 HD Theater
206 MOJO
207 Versus/Golf HD
208 Universal HD
209 MHD
210 National Geographic HD
211 A&E HD
215 & 300 HBO HD
218 NFL Network HD
219 & 319 Cinemax HD
220 TBS HD
223 & 339 Showtime HD
225 TLC HD
227 & 369 STARZ HD
231 WPVI-DT (ABC-HD)*
232 WCAU-DT (NBC-HD)*
233 KYW-DT (CBS-HD)*
234 WTXF-DT (FOX-HD)*
235 WPHL-DT (WB-HD)*
236 WPSG-DT (UPN-HD)*
240 WHYY-DT (PBS-HD)*
Everyday I watch the Comcast Palace go up in Center City Philadelphia yet I receive the least amount of HD channels in America.
COMCASTIC!!!! Just counting the days until Verizon's FIOS is available in my area.
I’m disgusted

Inappropriate?I guess I'm going to bump this, since I haven't gotten a satisfactory response. And neither have many other Comcast NJ subscribers.
-
Inappropriate? So no one has any answers? FiOS is almost here with 100+ HD channels and HD VOD, and Comcast *still* only has 27.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I wish you the best of luck. While my area has 36 HD channels, I find that isn't even enough. I can understand your frustration.
The DTA solution couldn't come faster. By this time they could of upgraded to 1 GHz already. Time to start using the tools in the box to get these types of systems up to date.
I’m frustrated as well.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue in my area in the southeast, I don't know for sure but it's less than 30 channels. Directv offers 130 channels, I know I should switch but I don't want to give up my Tivo HD but Comcast is making it very difficult to stay with them
I’m frustrated also!
