FlickrExport times out uploading from iPhoto '08
Hi - I just downloaded the trial version of your application. I have tried to use it multiple
times and always have the same result: after uploading about 150K of the first file, progress stops. After about 10 minutes it times out completely with an error screen. The error message is
FlickrExport lost its network connection whilst talking to the Flickr server. Please check your networking, DNS, and any proxy servers
I have tried quitting and restarting iPhoto, and even completely rebooting the iMac. No other applications have any problems accessing the network - I even tried downloading a large file while the upload was stalled to confirm that connectivity is good.
I am running 10.5 on an Intel iMmac. iPhoto is version 7.1.5 (378). Flickr Export is version 2.0.15 for iPhoto.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem with iPhoto 6.0.6 and the paid for version of flickrExport 2.0.15. One photo uploads, then during the second I get these errors, and when I go to flickr no photos have been received. This only started yesterday, so it may be a flickr issue?
I’m concerned
-
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Sorry for taking time to get to this thread. Still a problem, or a transient Flickr issue?
Thanks,
Fraser -
Inappropriate?Just uploaded 14 photos without a glitch, so hopefully this was only temporary. Thanks, Fraser!
I’m entirely satisfied

Inappropriate?Great. Thanks for the followup.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue with a paid for version of FE. There was a time that restarting iPhoto would fix it but in the last week or so I've not been able to get it fixed.
I thought I'd give the FlickrExport beta a whirl but that didn't fix it. My last attempt was upgrading to iPhoto '09 which once again doesn't resolve it.
It would make sense if this was a flickr error but then I would have expected a lot more people to be suffering.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Sorry this is happening again for me. Had a batch of ten photos, 8 of which uploaded, but then stalled on the 9th. Tried uploading them on their own, but still got errors. If I go to the flickr site immediately after I am unable to load it, Safari says that the servers may be busy. After a minute or so, I am able to connect to the flickr site, and have been able to use their web-based uploader for the last few files.
I’m frustrated too
-
Inappropriate? Not trying to fob you off here chaps, but I've seen a few things around the web saying that Flickr has been experiencing some heavy load since the release of iPhoto '09 (guess everyone's playing with the new stuff).

Inappropriate?Hi Fraser,
FlickrExport isn't working for me at all.
When selecting export, the FE dialogue box shows the status of "Checking stored credentials with flickr" progress bar. Then after about 3 seconds it shows an alert saying "Connection Timed Out - FlickrExport timed out while trying to contact flickr. Please check your networking and any proxy servers".
I don't buy that flickr has been brought down by people playing with iPhoto'09.
It would be easy to point the finger of blame at Flickr if it wasn't for the fact that Flickr are indeed responding (albeit quite slowly):
$ ping api.flickr.com
PING www.flickr.vip.mud.yahoo.com (68.142.214.24): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 68.142.214.24: icmp_seq=0 ttl=48 time=145.383 ms
64 bytes from 68.142.214.24: icmp_seq=1 ttl=48 time=148.208 ms
64 bytes from 68.142.214.24: icmp_seq=2 ttl=48 time=149.780 ms
The question is what is "www.flickr.vip.mud.yahoo.com"?
Any ideas?
I really don't want to have to use iPhoto'09s new flickr export option as it sorely limited in what it can do and forces a creation of a new set for EVERY export(!). Pleeease don't make me go there!!
For the sake of completeness of this bug report, here's my set up:
Mac Pro 2x2.66dc Intel(4GB ram) 10.5.6
iPhoto'09 (same thing was happening on iPhoto'08 which was curable by restarting iPhoto)
FlickrExport 3.0.0b29 (same thing was happening with FE 2.0.015) - licenced
Thanks!
I’m losing hope

Inappropriate?I too have the same problem - I haven't tried uploading for a couple of weeks, but both last night and this morning I get the timeout message. I can ping the api.flickr.com server as above, and receive the replies, so it doesn't look like Flickr's problem. FlickrUploadr works fine...
However, now I try again a few minutes later (after restarting iPhoto), it works fine. Does FlickrExport try to reconnect again if it's failed once, or does it just decide that it can't connect and give the same message? I don't mind so much there being occasional connection problems, but restarting iPhoto each time in the hope that it fixes things is a bit annoying.
BTW, I'm using the latest, full version of FlickrExport for iPhoto.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?OK, will be looking into this more deeply now. I think, somewhere, there might be a timeout that's too short.
-
Inappropriate?Same here, several days of timeouts with never success. Restart computer. No success. Then suddenly it all works.
