Tag filtering and EXIF keywords
I am using FlickrExport beta with Aperture and have it set to filter out some keywords to ensure they don't turn into tags on Flickr. This works fine in that Flickr tags are not created.
However I just noticed that if I look at the EXIF data on Flickr the keywords I set to be filtered out are still listed in the keywords field in EXIF. This is not at all what I want.
Can FE be enhanced to also filter these keywords in the EXIF?
Also, I think it is worth warning folks filtering the keywords only effects the tags in Flickr. They'll still show up in the keywords. (I didn't find this documented).

Inappropriate?Hi RF,
The only workaround for this is to use an Aperture preset that does not include metadata when exporting to Flickr. This is because Flickr parses the EXIF/IPTC data for tags when photos are uploaded, and there's no way for a client like FlickrExport to tell Flickr not to do it.
I take your point about a warning though.
Best,
Fraser

Inappropriate? Thanks for a quick reply. For now I turned off visibility of my EXIF data on Flickr. But I hate doing so as it is useful for people to be able to see this info. Turning off metadata export in Aperture is equally draconian. Sounds like I have no choice though.
I guess the best point of solution would be for Aperture to let us create a metadata set to control what is exported, rather than an all or nothing But I can't imagine Apple implementing that.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Yeah, I'm afraid there isn't a really good workaround for this that doesn't have some other negative consequence. Sorry.

Inappropriate?I have this same problem. I checked the Flickr API but it doesn't look like they have a method for setting the exif data. You can query it, of course. But there's no setExif() :( One could, conceivably, do something drastic like download and then replace the photo after munging the exif locally. ugh!
I had to turn off "show exif" on my flickr account because I have keywords which are.... too detailed... for public consumption. This is most unfortunate too because I'd like to share my exposure and focal length settings.
I'm surprised Aperture doesn't give you finer granularity in their export API. Do they just give you a jpeg "object" and you have to consume it with all its embedded exif data?
Can you grab a third party jpeg library and munge it pre-export? :)
I’m dismayed

Inappropriate? The images that Aperture sends to its plugins are the same images you would get if you exported an image to a file with the same Image Export Preset.
It's really in the presets that Aperture needs to give more control over metadata. Currently the only control is an "include metadata" checkbox.
I would strongly encourage you to send this to Apple as feedback on Aperture at http://www.apple.com/feedback/apertur... -
Inappropriate? It's probably a big detour in your workflow but if you don't already have alot of stacks in your export collection you could always try this:
1) Select all the images in the album you're going to export
2) Duplicate the images
You now have a stack for each image, with the newly dup'd version as the stack pick
3) Filter the view by stack pick and select all
4) Use the keyword control bar to remove the keywords you don't want (type in the keyword and Shift-Return)
5) Make sure all are selected and then right-click Export->FlickrExport...
6) Perform the export with the keywords cleared
7) Select all images and then right-click to Delete Versions...
8) Remove the view filter and you have all your originals again.
I’m confident
