Unable to Export--Application not Responding
FlickrExport 3.0. Downloaded and licensed today. Appears to completely freeze at "Exporting". iPhoto stops reponding, and have to force quit. Have restarted iPhoto, no change, and restarted Mac, also no change.
After the Exporting sheet appears, Little snitch shows no network activity for iPhoto, the progress bar never starts to appear, and the app does not respond.
OS X 10.5.6
iPhoto '09
The 3.0.0b29 beta worked perfectly on this machine, but I can't get the new version to work.
I have tried reinstalling.

Inappropriate?RESOLVED IT: I needed to run the Beta installer and perform an uninstall. Then I reinstalled the new release and it works fine.
The 3.0 new release installer never prompted for me to uninstall previous versions, nor did it indicate that the install was unsuccessful.
I’m happy it's fixed
-
Inappropriate?Running the Beta installer and uninstalling the beta version doesn't work for me. I've even re-installed beta and uninstall in an attempt to clean up 'properly' before installing version 3. I've also re-authorized with Flickr hoping it would help. Nothing worked so far, it just freeze.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have the same symptoms, but having installed FlickrExport 2 previously. (iPhoto 6 on 10.5.6, macMini).
-
Did you try uninstalling FlickrExport2 using it's installer, then reinstalling FE3? -
Inappropriate?I can't find a FlickExport 2 uninstaller :(
Either way, this is a real problem. -
There isn't an uninstaller. If you run the Installer for FlickrExport 2, on the first screen there will be an option to unistall. Use that to uninstall version 2, then reinstall 3. That may fix the problem -
Inappropriate?Same problem here. I had FlickrExport2 installed and simply installed over the top of it. Hanging on Exporting.. (although I notice that it flashes up the number of photos its exporting before hanging). Doesn't give up focus either which was always a problem on version 2 for a few seconds. I've tried uninstalling FlickrExport3 and reinstalling but no joy. I've paid for the upgrade (as I've been a loyal customer since before 2008 ;-} ) so a bit pissed that I can't upload any more.
I’m pissed

Did you try uninstalling FlickrExport 2 before installing FlickrExport 3? -
Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
Firstly, I'm really sorry you're having a problem with the new release.
The FlickrExport 2.0.15 release is still downloadable at the downloads page (further down the page under "Older Versions").
To understand what's going on, please could you:
- Check if there are any messages logged in Console
- If nothing is logged in Console, open Activity Monitor, select iPhoto and click the Sample Process button. This will produce a window of text, which you can save. Please email that to info-at-connectedflow.com, since it's very long and tends to mess up Get Satisfaction.
Thanks and, again, apologies for the hiccup.
Fraser
I’m anxious to fix this for you.

Inappropriate? While I was able to fix by uninstalling the beta and then installing FE3, the only messages in the console related to iPhoto when I did have the problem all say:
date/time iPhoto[586] Data retain count: 2
Each time I tried to export, a new iPhoto record was also created under HangReporter, but each is blank. -
Inappropriate? If you uncheck the "Copy Title and Description Changes to iPhoto" preference, is the problem solved?

this solves the problem

Yes, that worked for me. I never uninstalled version 3, so this is definitely a workaround. -
Same for me on both counts. I didn't even have to restart iPhoto. -
I agree, worked for me as well. -
Inappropriate?Same troubles, tried uninstalling, tried reinstalling. Unchecking the Copy Title Changes Back dialog does seem to fix the error. However, now the console shows this message more than 4000 times:
3/4/09 9:30:55 PM iPhoto[672] Data retain count: 2
One other thing, in the process manager I see that TB of memory are sometimes being used while iPhoto hangs:
-
Inappropriate?Same issue here using iPhoto '09. iPhoto hangs when FlickrExporter reaches "Exporting..." in the dialog. There is nothing left in console.log or in the hang reports. iPhoto has to be forced-quit.
I’m frustrated
-
Steven, did the workaround I posted above also fix it for you? -
No. I even went in and manually removed the exporter and all preference lists. It goes through the preparing step but when it reaches the exporting step it hangs. -
Steven,
Can you do the following for me:
- Perform the export to the point where it hangs
- Open Activity Monitor
- Click on iPhoto (the name should be in red if it's hung)
- Click the "Sample Process" button
- Save the resulting text to a file and email it to info-at-connectedflow.com
That will help me figure out where it's hanging for you.
Thanks,
Fraser -
Inappropriate?Just sent you the email.
-
Inappropriate?I saw the earlier post about deselecting the option to copy information back to iPhoto. When I did that the exporter started working.
-
Inappropriate?Steven, thanks for sending that. It seems to be hanging in executing an AppleScript, which is how the "Copy title and description back to iPhoto" feature is implemented. To make this change effective, you need to open FlickrExport, change the preference, then quit iPhoto entirely and start over.
If that still doesn't work for you, please come back to me again on this. -
Inappropriate?I've been having the hanging problem... sometimes. Always when trying to send just one photo. On occasion when sending two photos. Never when sending more than that (although I have not tried every different number above two of course...)
I have not switched off the "Copy title etc to iPhoto" because, well, I want to copy it back. I certainly tried changing all the other settings in the FE dialogue box, but only sending multiple photos seems to keep it from hanging.
Using 10.5.6, iPhoto 8.0.1, FlickrExport 3.0 on a 2.53 GHz MacBook Pro. -
Whoops! Now I have had it hang with multiple photos. Crap. -
Inappropriate? After many more exports, still with "Copy title and description back to iPhoto" checked, I think I have cracked what makes it crash, and what doesn't: my experience, consistently repeatable, has been that it will crash if you have not changed the title. If you have a changed title, no crash.
I attempted many exports with all sorts of variables checked, unchecked, filled in, blank, in the dialogue box, but always with the "Copy title" preference in the default ON position, and the only consistent results have come from actually changing the title of the photo in FlickrExport. It works beautifully, as it should, when I do that.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Time for another update.
After continued daily use of FlickrExport 3.0, with "Copy title and description back to iPhoto" still checked on, it continues to work without fail. That is, I now always change the title of the photos in FlickrExport. It only ever crashed if I did not change the title.
What is new is that for the first time since upgrading to 3.0, I created a new set for the photos to be loaded into in Flickr. The set was created, with the correct title, but the description I wrote did not make it to Flickr... and I wrote a good long description. That will need some attention from you guys.
I’m resigned to more bugs.
-
Inappropriate?Craig, thanks for the update. All points have been logged as bugs and will be worked on.
I’m hoping to clear these up for you soon.

Inappropriate? This problem is now recurring again with iPhoto 8.0.3, FlickrExport for iPhoto 3.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.7.
The solution of unchecking the "Copy Title and Description Changes to iPhoto" preference resolves the issue. FE 3.0.1 was working great for me yesterday, and today with iPhoto 8.0.3, not so much.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, OSX 10.5.7, iPhoto 8.0.3 (405), FlickrExport 3.0.1. Uncheck the 'copy back to iphoto' option seems to cure the problem.
I’m nonplussed

Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem with flickrexport 3.0.1 in iPhoto 7.1.5(378) on Mac OS 10.4.11
1. flickrexport for iPhoto successfully logs in to flickr account.
2. After selecting tags, sets, etc, I click the Export button.
3. flickrexport hangs. Mac almost instantly reports that the application has stopped responding. In one instance, I let it run for 6 hours, but there was no response. I have to Force Quit every time I try to use flickrexport v3.
This morning I downgraded to flickrexport v2 and have not had any more problems.
My console messages are:

Inappropriate?I had the same problem after updating to iPhoto 09 and unchecking the "Copy title and description back to iPhoto" solved the problem.
I’m good
-
Inappropriate?Bug still exists in version 3.0.2 (on iPhoto '08). I will test the work around to see if it will resolve the problem. I have a copy of the crash dump if needed.
I’m indifferent
-
Fraser's solution appears to resolve this problem. -
Inappropriate? My simple fix is to make sure I change the title of (at least) the first photo, in which case I can leave the "Copy title and description back to iPhoto" checked. If you don't change the title of the first photo you are uploading, however, it will still crash!
