"Insert Photo" type functionality for desktop - but from the clipboard.

I've been using the Mobile version lately on my Palm Treo Pro.
The "Insert Photo" from the camera is glorious ! I am excited to have this ability and look forward to using it.

I would adore similar functionality on the desktop, except not photo but screen capturing.
Right now I use Snagit to capture my information to the clipboard
I just press printscreen, click with the mouse drag down and across (making a square) and the screen is sent to either a file, and editor, or many locations, but I chose the clipboard.

Could there be a method of either
(1) adding the current clipboard as an image ?
(2) some other screen capture tool adding an image ?
(3) some other functionality ?
