Inappropriate?don't know - sorry. I use FireFox as my default browser. so I know how to tell Firefox which application to use for what type of link. I don't know how to do the equivalent in IE.
In Firefox, it's Tools -> Options -> Applications - then search for Content Type of outlook. All I can suggest is that you look for an equivalent in IE. -
Inappropriate?I use FireFox as well. It is my default browser.
What are the Firefox settings ?
I see a mailto: setting in FireFox that deals with outlook ... but that is it. -
Ah right - then it's easy - just add an "outlook:" setting similar to the mailto: one.
See http://twitpic.com/cwnew
That said, the first time you ever clicked on an outlook: link it should have prompted you for which application to use -
Inappropriate?I used these instructions to add the outlook: protocol to FireFox.
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/T...
Essentially,
For other protocols, change the protocolName to match the name of the protocol you want to register and programName to the name of the program you want to have open:
javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('protocolName','http://support.mozilla.com/value=%s','programName');
I used.
javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('outlook','http://support.mozilla.com/value=%s','Outlook');
Then I went into FireFox (Tools .. Options ... Applications) and saw the entry. I added a new entry to use with the Outlook protocol (see image below) and deleted the one I made above.

To prove it is a hijacking problem, I pasted what still appears in the IE window ( outlook:00000000A402A5AA908D71488C425AADE7FD10F0446F2C00 ) into FireFox and it successfully open up the outlook Todo !
Seems IE is hijacking the outlook; protocol. Any suggestions ? I have OneNote installed on this PC and i thought it might have used the outlook: protocol as well ? -
Inappropriate? To further the hijacking idea, I exported the bLADEwiki page in which I made the Outlook link to .htm ... when I open the exported page in FireFox .. and click the link ... the Outlook task open successfully.
when I open the exported page in IE(7) .. and click the link ... the Outlook task opens in another IE window (the task does not open successfully).
/stumped.
Note: I have tried this on 5 of my PCs, all the same problem. -
Inappropriate?Regarding all the new .dlls in the bLADEwiki directory .... I have up until recently just had Interop.SHDocVw.dll in the root bW directory. I manually copies the:
Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary.dll
Interop.Microsoft.Office.Core.dll
Interop.Outlook.dll
into my root bW dir (C:\bLADEWiki).
Do these .dll files need to be on the Windows Path ? Do they need to be registered ?
HTH. -
I have the dll files in the same directory as my bLADE Wiki executable. It isn't in the PATH.
The Outlook ones are registered in the GAC, although I didn't do this for bLADE Wiki... not sure if it has an impact - I wouldn't have thought that it does. -
Inappropriate?Struggled with the same issue and found this thread. I've added in the outlook protocol in Firefox and have confirmed that I can open an outlook item directly from Firefox. I've set Firefox as the default browser and confirmed that a hyperlink in other applications launches Firefox. An http link in a Blade page opens fine in Firefox - an outlook: link attempts to open in ie and I get the "can't be found" message that was the topic of the original post. Any progress on finding out how IE hijacks the outlook: porotocol, or alternatively, how to set up the pointer to the Outlook application within IE?
Thanks

I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Of note: this is a display problem.
Maybe an IE security issue ?
Because even though the item does not display .... the Task is created.
Dale, another side note ... I dont think the control + t shortcut works to make a todo. -
Inappropriate? Here's what looks to be a related MS support page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968416
Quote: "This problem occurs because the Outlook: URL protocol is not registered in the Windows registry by Outlook 2007. This functionality is not included with Outlook 2007. Consequently, any use of the Outlook: URL protocol does not function. "
However - you can open an item using the command line: (I use teamscope linker to get the unique ID for a mail message, and then the command line is just c:> "path to outlook" "GUID" - works fine.
So what I tried to do is register the outlook: protocol - I added a Outlook.URL.outlook string under
HKEY_Local_Machine/SW/Clients/Mail/MS Outlook/Capabilities/URL Associations
I then added a Outlook.URL.outlook key to
HKEY_Local_Machine/SW/Classes
And configured this key be similar to the mailto or webcal items - except no command line switches.
Restarted windows and opened ID and clicked on an outlook: link embedded in a web page and .... didn't work.
So - I'm in over my head (any anyone out there with decent experience would note) - but I thought I'd post what I tried. Bottom line is I'm stuck: I'd really like outlook item links (generated by teamscope linker) embedded in Blade pages to open - that would help me a lot, because I'm always cross referencing mail items in my daily log. I did this routinely in Wikidpad on a previous job - but that was with Office 2003, which - it appears from the knowledge base article cited above - did register the outlook: protocol with windows.
Spent too much time on this already - but would welcome any advice.
Thanks

Inappropriate?Eureka! Success!
Teamscope has already addressed the issue of Outlook 2007 not registering the outlook protocol:
http://www.teamscope.com/support/faq....
They posted a zip file with directions on how to register the protocol within regedit, and also provided a registry file that provides the registry items.
I executed the file and - voila! I can now open my mail messages, contacts or any other links that I embedded in the Blade page using the teamscope linker.

Super Thanks !
I imported the .reg file and that was all that was needed for me.
I’m thankful !
