Syncing without cables
Have you heard of Live Mesh?
It's a way to sync files between multiple computers and Windows Mobile phones. I've been using it to keep my wiki files synced between two laptops and three mobile phones - and I've been very impressed at how seamlessly it works.
I've written about it a bit http://dalelane.co.uk/blog/?p=309 but I would say that it's worth a try.
I'd still keep backing up your files though - this is a beta service!

Inappropriate?Had any problems with Live Mesh syncing ?
I used to sync many PCs with FolderShare (now Live Sync).
it worked quite well.
now, I just use a VPN (Hamachi). -
nope, Live Mesh is still working well for me across a couple of computers and a few mobiles -
Inappropriate? What is your guess on the synch times ? (ie. make a change on your PC, how long does it take to populate all the devices ?)
Have you ever messed up -- edited a page on one PC (Left it on the [edit] screen) and then edited the same page on another device ?
Seems like Live Mesh is almost a portal ..
"Live Mesh News gives you a continuous feed detailing activities in your mesh. It lets you know when a file in a shared folder has been changed, when someone joins or leaves a folder you’re sharing, when messages are posted to folders, and more." -
sync times? pretty much instantaneous
as for merge conflicts... it's not really a problem. because all my devices are always online, and the syncing is pretty quick, you'd have to work hard to screw it up
not sure about the portal analogy... it's just over-the-air file syncing. but done quite nicely -
Inappropriate?Hopefully this isn't a double post. I recently installed mesh on both my computers and windows mobile phone. So far its great for all my word docs etc on windows mobile. The issue I have is that mesh puts blade wiki in Live folderss and blade wiki doesn't let me get into that folder to open it. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. -
blade wiki doesn't let me get into that folder to open it
Could you explain more about this, please? What do you mean "it doesn't let you"? -
Inappropriate?Works great for me, too. The only issue I have is with slow mesh updates from the PDA, resulting in change conflicts if I'm not careful.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I tried exactly this today, but found that Device changes would propagate to the PC, but not the other way.
I’m giving up on Live Mesh for WM -- still too flakey
-
Inappropriate?Currently Live Mesh doesn't allow you to add devices (as they had in the past).
Apparently that may change soon allowing syncing over wifi.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue as blue_wardrobe: Sync pushes blade text file changes from PC to Live Desktop - can open the files off the desktop and see modifications. Modification date/time on file updated correctly and everything. Then I sync the folder from Live running my WM 6.1 device - previous version of the blade text file is retained: PC changes will not propagate to the device. Bummer.
