Add custom fields (which can be used for searching and Smart Shelves)
I'm sure lots of people have asked about this, and I know there is a Notes field, but it would be great if users could add 1-3 custom fields that could be searched or used for Smart Shelf criteria.

Inappropriate? We haven't added custom fields yet. It's a great idea, and very popular - we simply didn't have time to do everything for 2.0.

Inappropriate? This is a really great idea and it might make a purchasing decision for me. I have collections that I would really like to separate using a couple custom fields.

Inappropriate? It's a cool thing, this DL. And yes, fields for user info would be the clincher. I am surprised not to find, for example, how to indicate whether an item was borrowed, a wish-list item or lost. I'd prefer to be able to add my own comment/reviews than to have the vendor's recs and revs. (I've found the Notes field for some items, but not for others.)

Inappropriate?I think, too, that this is a great idea, especially in the case I'm dealing with at the moment: Some movies actually belong to each other but have different names which would separate them on the shelf when sorting by title, e.g. "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles Of Riddick".
I don't really want to change the title of "The Chronicles Of Riddick" into "Pitch Black 2" just to keep them together. With a custom field, I could keep using "The Chronicles Of Riddick" as title and "Pitch Black 2" as sorting field.
I’m awaiting the next version with excitement

Inappropriate?Nagamendo, this is where I use the "Series" tag. So, you could call the series either "Pitch Black" (to sort at P) or "Chronicles of Riddick" (to sort at C), and then make "Pitch" #1 in the series, and "Riddick" #2 in the series. Then, if you sort by series, it'll do your series info first, then series number, and then (if there is no series entry) it'll sort by title.
This works really well, and is how I do it. The "Series" tag is also useful for titles like "The Sixth Sense" or "The Ten Commandments." I like having them sort at the top, as numerics (ie, "6th Sense" and "10 Commandments"), so I put a "series" entry using the numeral, instead of the word. This makes it sort like I want, but the official title is still spelled out, as it was.
There is one hitch in my system; currently, the "Series" field doesn't sort intelligently. So "The 6th Sense" sorts with the "T" section, and "6th Sense" will sort after "50 First Dates." That is wrong, so I end up calling the series "06th Sense" instead of the closer "The 6th Sense". So, I can work around it, but I'm still hoping the DL crew is able to get "Series" sorting correctly with one of the upcoming updates.

Inappropriate?Nagamendo: I think a good solution to your problem would be a field like a "sort by" title (like they have in iTunes). I can make that suggestion.

Inappropriate?Hutson and Jessiechar
As soon as I find some spare time, I will experiment with the "Series" tag.
But a "Sort by" field would be a good thing anyway, especially if it copies the title field as default. In this case I would only have to alter (override) those entries where the normal sorting would produce an unwanted order.
I’m excited and I like it.

Inappropriate?Nagamendo: good luck with the series tagging!

Inappropriate?I use the series and number in series extensively. For example I have the Bourne Identity series. The series name is "Bourne" and each movie is numbered 1-4. The titles remain as "the Bourne identity", "The Bourne Supremacy", etc. Then I sort by series not by title. This sorts the titles correctly. If I used the series of "The bourne identity" then the series sorting is incorrect. Just leave of "the" and it all works perfectly. Remember to sort by series not title.

Inappropriate?Another vote for custom fields (and the ability to export them to the web)!
I’m hopeful
