Cannot create new Shelf from current selection
I'm running into frustration trying to create a new Shelf from items that I have selected in my Library. Here's my workflow:
(1) I scroll through my Library of about 1,000 items and select specific items that I want to have on a new Shelf.
(2) Expecting this to be like iTunes, I go to the "File" menu looking for an option to create a new Shelf using my current selection. I find that this option isn't there, but no big deal -- I just choose "New Shelf" and create a new Shelf.
(3) My view has now switched to the newly created Shelf, so I go back to the Library to move my selected items into this new Shelf.
(4) The Library has lost both my selection and my scroll position. Tears... I now have to redo my entire selection and drag it into the Shelf that I created.
From what I can tell, if you have a carefully created selection that you want to put into a new Shelf, you're just hosed -- there's no option to create a new Shelf from the current selection, and if you just create a new Shelf the normal way then you lose your selection and scroll position.
Even now that I know the behavior, it's frustrating because I often want to make my selection before I make a new Shelf, or at the very least scroll to my items before I make a new Shelf (for example, I may not remember the exact spelling of the author's name, so I want to scroll to the item to look at it first).
For me, the main problem is that the Library doesn't seem to maintain my selection or scroll position when I switch to a shelf and then back to the Library again (seems to be true in both Icon and List mode), which is very frustrating since these operations can take a bit of time with a large library.
This particular problem could also be solved by offering a "New Shelf from Selection" option, but even then I would like to see the first issue solved.

Inappropriate? If you right-click (or control-click) on one of the selected items in a shelf, the first command in the popup menu is New Shelf from Selection. I agree, it would be more obvious if it was also in the File menu.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the tip, that basically solves my issue (although I'd still like to see the selection / scroll issue solved as well)!
I’m thankful
