Delicious iPhone Library
How can I export my library to the iPhone? The help says it's impossible and it will only work with "old" iPods.
PocketPedia is already available in the AppStore, when will Delicious follow?
Or is it hopeless and should I switch to PocketPedia?

It is a matter of exporting to the web and then viewing via Safari--though, who knows, we may be developing something a little better. =)
Another option would be to export to tab delimited or excel format, then transfer those files over to your Touch/iPhone. I've got a detailed explanation of how one user got everything onto his iPhone. I'll try to dig that up and post it.

Inappropriate?Check out this thread. Basically Wil is working on it, hopefully.
BUT.. There are also some workarounds in that thread for getting your library on your iphone/ipod touch now.
Personally I use file magnet & have the printout of my library saved as a pdf file, alphabetically by title so I can scan through. I only have dvds at the moment though, when I put my books in my library it's going to be a longer list so harder to do that way!
I’m hopeful

Ah, another FileMagnet fan, hello! ;o)
My post about FileMagnet is in the thread you mention. I use it in a slightly different way, with individual text files per item - and it handles 3,600+ items quite happily. However, as far as I can tell the only way to export individual text files is by connecting an iPod, at which point DL automatically creates them in its Notes file, from where you can copy them to your Mac and then via FileMagnet to your iPhone. I've asked Will if it's possible (or will be possible in future) to export those individual text notes WITHOUT an iPod, but haven't had a reply yet. Fingers crossed... -
I don't mean to be unkind, but, I don't want to have to design, engineer and build a car so that I can drive it.
I have to say that 2.0, while faster and filled with promise...is a mess. Publishing my library: no options for how the library is to be displayed, no customization. I don't want it to be called My Library, generic. Also, having different layouts would be nice, like, List view for example. And, after publishing to the web, I get an error message dialog indicating that there might problems and to check my library. The library appears to be okay, but, it is listing over 200 more items than are actually in my library. With 1000 listings, I'm not going to try and figure this out.
And, I should be able to UN-PUBLISH from a button on Delicious Library. True enough, it is easy to go on iDisk and do it manually, but, that's a pretty big kludge, isn't it?
The iPhone export does not work. When I export my library to the web, I can find an iphone folder on my idisk under sites ... but it does not sync to my iphone. I agree with the above comments: PocketPedia is already there. Delicious needs to get there.
Software that is confusing, buggy and takes more brain cycles than it should eventually ends up in the dumpster.
I like Delicious-you know, small company, would really like to see you succeed big time, my heart is with you ... BUT ... I can't hang if your product won't deliver. -
Sorry you're not having a good time. We have two templates by default, and you can add more or download templates other people have made. We're hoping to add more in the future, but, you know, making pretty HTML takes time. As for having 200 extra items, you can set which shelves you want to publish -- did you publish your iTunes collection as well? Or your item + your custom shelves (that would appear to "add" extra items). If PocketPedia solves your needs now, I would encourage you to use it, and keep an eye on us as we fix things up -- it may be that the app I'm writing isn't focussed on what you want. -
Inappropriate?drgroovytunes: that's a bit harsh - the program is buggy but Wil is working on fixing the bugs. The iPhone folder you've found isn't supposed to sync to your iphone - navigate to your library in mobile safari, and it detects that you're browsing from the iphone and brings up the iphone version of the library export site.

The problem is, it doesn't work. When I visit my library web site on my iPhone, it looks exactly the same as it does in proper Safari on my Mac. -
Inappropriate?Hang in there Will, I know you'll come to our rescue!

Inappropriate?I'm starting to get a bit of an answer to my question, but I'm still confused about using the library with my iPod Touch, as the splash page for version 2 vaguely stated would be possible. I upgraded to 2 and I've tried to figure out what to do next.
Is this simply a matter of exporting to web and there will be an iPhone friendly version available (on the web) and there's no way to publish it TO the iPod touch?
Does this mean that if I'm in a store without wireless (pretty much every store I know), I will not be able to access my library on my iPod Touch? -

Inappropriate?I have to send myself an email with an xls of the delicious export every time I go book shopping (700+ at the moment and still increasing!) which is OK but I have come to expect a better solution from Delicious/iPhone combination.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to add my two cents worth and support for holding the data on the iPhone/iPod touch and not relying upon the internet. Once you have a couple thousand entries (and you're in an airport bookstore in a foreign airport) relying upon the internet -- particularly since you don't have real search functions -- is far from ideal.
For now, I guess I'll try to export as a tap delimited file and email it to myself. Personally, I'd vote for an associated iPhone/iPod Touch app that loads the data on the device and gives one better search and display possibilities. -
Inappropriate?I too vote +1 for some kind of real export to iPhone that doesn't require some complicated steps, nor rely on network connection. Why no syncing iphone app a la 1password's? Any philosophical reason,or is it just a matter of priorities?
I’m hopeful but not holding my breath
-
Inappropriate?I hope you guys are developing something better. Like I said in my post that wasn't responded to, anytime I try to view my library on my iPhone 3g it crashes safari after loading like a quarter of it. Probably could be more of an iPhone problem, as I've lost count of how often apps crash, but someone must be able to view their whole library.

Inappropriate?MyInfiniteAbyss: We work with a limited pace, since we have one engineer that writes all this stuff. But hopefully we will be able to get out that better solution soon, I'm sure you aren't the only one who wants it!

Inappropriate?I am now using Air Sharing 1.0.02 app from the Apple Store to transfer my Delicious Library. Seems to work OK as an interim measure.

Inappropriate? How can I rich the link on MobileMe what I have Published from my Deicious Library 2?
-
I was wondering that. It's a shame there's no proper documentation on how to use these features. I published my library to MobileMe... but where did it go? How do I reach it? It's a complete mystery. -
Inappropriate? One possibility is the $10 iPhone app HanDBase. I got it for other stuff, but it works for the purpose of having nice access to my data. $10 for just DL2 access is probably not worth it though so YMMV.
HanDBase has a built-in webserver mode to allow transfer from Mac to iPhone. Export from DL2 to CSV including whichever fields you like (Title, Item Type) for instance and HanDBase can import the CSV and automatically create a table with the data. You can then sort/filter/search through the data locally. -
Inappropriate?I am currently using the 1.6 version and will not upgrade until this feature is implemented.
I have tried bookpedia, sync to iphone is great but the isight barcode reading is not as good as the delicious one
I’m expecting
-
Inappropriate? Now I export from dl2 to csv, upload to google docs (spreadsheets) and just view it on my phone, or any web browser. Not as good as 'sync', but it'll do, and allows me tight control over which fields to export (I really only care about 4 of them).
I’m dealing with it for now

Inappropriate? The Pedia series provides a free Pocketpedia for iPhone. You can import into the various pedia apps your Delicious Library, then sync through wifi to your iPhone. You dont need to pay for the pedia apps to do that. I dont know why the Delicious team cannot provide such functionnality..
-
Inappropriate?dompom: we are in the last stages of developing our iPhone app. Sorry for the wait, but we think it'll be worth it!
-
Inappropriate?Well, I got the app files light, http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZ... and added my export files to that, and they are available anywhere. INSTANTLY.
