Delicious Library 2 broken in 10.5.6?

Oh wow, thanks for letting me know about this. I was going to upgrade to 10.5.6 later today or tomorrow, and I'm doing a TON of stuff with DL right now (putting DVDs into boxes) and that would have been devastating.

So does it work for anyone? And when will Delicious Monster respond?

It has been days now since I had this problem as well. I am unable to use the application at all :( Does anybody have any news on whether this problem has been acknowledged, if someone is looking into it and when we might have a solution ? I'd really like to get back to using DL!

I just ran 2.0.5 (V10707) for the first time since the 10.5.6 update and I had a crash (not nearly as long an error message as above though). I chose to report the bug and nothing happened. Since then it's launching fine (haven't restarted or done anything at all, jut launched the app again).

All appears to be well. If any info here would help I'd be happy to supply it (59.8MB library).

if I move aside the old Library Folder and let Library create a new empty one everything looks fine. I've created one item (a bluray-disk) and restarted Library. It starts without any error. Strange...

Here is how I *FIXED* my crashing. It seems that it will crash if for some reason you have deleted an addressbook entry, and this address exists in DL2.

Pay close attention to the error message, in my case it showed the name: Ray Book (Name changed). In my addressbook, that record was deleted, and I had created a new one using his full name, instead of modifying the record.

I used this neat, easy to use sqlite3 utility here, since DL2 is based on Core Data:

It's 10 UK Pounds, so it is worth having a license for this, since you would be able to directly modify any core data datasource with it.

All I did is remove the record in the Table: ZSHELF and DL2 launched with no problems.

My guess is that the DL2 devs need to throw in some error checking for when a join goes south, so that it doesn't throw the exception...

Works for me! If you are not sure of what I just said, please don't do anything, but I am sure this will be very useful to the developers in their tracking this bug down. :-)

I have repaired my library with the help of bgarlocks reply. Thank you.
In my case it was no deleted address, it was a self created smart shelf named "Musik DVDs". With the help of base I found that in Table ZSHELF the entry for Z_ENT was 37 in place of 34 for other shelfs and the entry in ZPREDICATESTRING was NULL in place of <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I've inserted the 34 and the xml string in the appropiate places and DL works again without any problem.

One little thing: The definition of the Shelf was lost so i had to redefine it.

I fixed my library too. I had an empty self creted shelf which had cause the problem here. After I deleted it with SQLlite database browser (free) it works again.

Hey, I have fixed my library as well by doing the same as Thomas... I used SQLLite to remove an entry for a shelf I created in the ZSHELF table. I could see from the console which one was causing the problem. Once I had done this I was able to open DL2 again... Thanks to everyone for putting their solutions up.

Hmph. I also have an empty shelf in DL2, and it's the one referenced in my error message, now that I think about it. I'll have to give the manual editing technique a try.

Edit: Worked like a charm! I just deleted the entry.

My DL file is 200MB.

On U:

First I remember starting to see weird behavior on DL2, namely issues with the CD/iTunes option for the first time, some day before updating to 10.5.6. Basically it would build up with only a fraction of the album covers I have in iTunes, and would not respond to clicking on the albums which cover was not showing. I thought that was a problem with an iTunes update. I tested playing a DL2-problem album in iTunes, and its cover would then appear in DL2 and be fine, only to loose the cover later. DL2 would then crash at some point. I resorted to off-ticking the CD-iTunes option and moving on.

I also remember removing 2 family members and 1 friend from the Friends section some time before updating to 10.5.6.

Now, the crash is so quick that I dont even have time to see the error message.

On O, I can play with several versions of my DL2 file.

- An old file that has the empty shelf and 3 Friends. One Friend has a sign next to it. See attached picture. It opens fine in O but not in U, although it used to.
- The current file, which has 25 DVDs, no Friends, no empty shelf. which works in O but not in U.

I think the consistent pattern relates to deletion or an empty shelf.

I have emailed the support address with the full console message - I hope either a fix can be found, or specific guidance as to how to remove the empty shelves, for those of us not familiar with sqlite databases.

I remove the record in the Table: ZSHELF and it WORKED!!!

I have the same problem on 10.5.6 - here's the bug report:

@Martin Ansin -- due to other reports, it looks like the culprit table in the db is the ZSHELF table. If you have the means, grab a sqlite3 editor, browse the ZSHELF table, and look for a record which has "On The Queue" in it, and remove that record. You should then be fine.

From what I have gathered, the ZSHELF table seems to be items that have been loaned out to people. It does seem to have other items in their too, but in my case, they were records of items I loaned out to people.

I am sure the devs have seen these replies, and seen that there seems to be some problem possibly with how table linking is working. As to why 10.5.6 broke this, I have no idea. Maybe Apple changed something with the Addressbook db, and now DL2 just needs to come out with a patch that handles Apple's changes.

I also have this issue.

I emailed (help@delicious-monster.com) the log from the crash, so I hope it'll help (it's a bit more complete than the crash report window, which I couldn't capture anyway.)

Edit: It's working OK on another machine with 10.5.6. The difference being that machine is a PB 1.67GHz PPC, and mine is MBP 2.33 17" Intel. No idea what that means - I just add it as a data point.

I dont know what a "friend shelf is", but i have only created a second shelf and moved a view there

Hi William,

I had the same problem as the others above.
In my case it was custom shelve, that was NOT emty. The shelf was created with DL2 a while ago.
After deleting the shelf with SQLite Browser DL ist starting fine.
Hope that helps you sorting out the strange problem.

The data file that I have that causes this problem in 10.5.6 indicated a error with specific Smart shelf. When I looked at it with SQlite the smart shelf had a Z_ENT value different from all other Smart shelves, so I changed it to match the others and now it works fine. If it matters, the Smart shelf that was different was the first smart shelf in the table.

Due to the fact that one of my CPUs is still with 10.5.5, I deleted two smart shelves, and the file now opens in the 10.5.6 CPU.

However I still have an problems when I enable iTunes: half of my 900+ CDs dont have covers, and dont start from DL2. Different issue though.

I had the problem as well. Beta fixed it on core 2 duo running 10.5.6.

I had difficulty getting any error message - the bug window closed as soon as it opened. I ran DL2 in a terminal window to get the error message. 10.5.6 broke a couple open-source packages on me too; I rebuilt those.

DL2 2.3.2 v11663 is crashing on my Macbook with 10.6.2, too.
It always happens if I want to change the publishing information (alt+shift+com+P). So I`m not able to publish anything.
And it crashes if I use the search.

I can confirm problems if you try to adjust the publication information for v11663 on 10.6.2. Search seems to work for me - what triggers the crash for you?

I have also submitted my crash info to DL support, so hopefully we can help stamp the bug out soon

I'm kind of curious, why are all you folks complaining about a problem not being addressed when you dumped your issue onto the end of a thread that has nothing to do with your problem, that was solved and closed almost a year ago?

One suggestion, start a new thread with a new title, and it will probably be addressed much more quickly. Hijacking an old thread and then trashing Delicious library, and or the Mac in general seems more like your looking for excuses to complain than looking for a real solution. IMHO

In my opinion, Delicious library is one of the most responsive developers I've encountered. Also Trashing the Mac and saying you'll switch back to windows for an obscure bug is overreacting. Windows has far worse crap to deal with than this.

To summarize, this thread is listed as solved. You won't get a quick response, if one at all if you don't create a new thread.
