DL2 crash
DL2 crashed in the middle of transfering cover art from my iPhone last weekend. I rebooted my computer, a Macbook Pro running OS 10, version 10.6.1.When I try to open the library now, I get the following message: "The file 'Delicious Library Items.deliciouslibrary2' couldn't be opened. No document could be created." I sent an email to DL support and was given a case number in FogBugz. So far I have had no response to this inquiry, and there does not appear to be any way to speak to a support person. I have spent hours building the library and have hundreds of items. Support has been nonexistent. I notice that other users have had similar problems, but no resolution has been offered.

I think we finally figured out what the problem is. Go into your Delicious Library 2 folder, which you'll find in your home folder here: ~/Library/Application Support/Delicious Library 2. And you should see a file ending in .journal. Drag this file out of the folder, and then launch Delicious Library 2. It should run as normal. If you don't have a file ending in .journal, send me a screenshot of the contents of that Delicious Library 2 folder so I can see what else you've got in there.
My apologies for this taking so long--we weren't able to figure out the problem until we got ahold of a machine which was experiencing the problem.

Carol,
First off, I am so sorry you haven't received any response from us in FogBugz yet. If you could, let me know what your FB case number is, and I'll take a look to make sure it didn't get lost or sorted into a black hole or something. We have even more messages in our support inbox than here on GetSatisfaction, so sometimes it can take awhile to get back to people-- we only have three employees here, so it's not hard to get behind on our emails.
Having said that-- it's no excuse for you to not be able to use this program you've paid for. So I'm also sorry for that. This is what I am able to offer you:
A solution: the "No document could be created" message is something we recently caught, and have been working around the clock to fix. I believe we have finally resolved this issue (you can read more about that here: 2.3 Beta). If you'd like, you can download that beta, and it should allow you to open your Library with no problem. If you download the beta and it doesn't seem to fix your problem, let me know right away--so far it's fixed everyone else's issue with this problem-- so it's important for us to know if it doesn't work 100% o the time.
A refund: Since you haven't been able to open your program, and on top of that, haven't been able to get in contact with us, I can offer to refund the money from your Delicious Library 2 purchase (but let you keep your DL2 license). If this is what you'd like to do, email "terry [at] delicious-monster [dot] com" referencing this GetSatisfaction thread, and she'll help you out as soon as she can.
Let me know if you have any further questions regarding this issue. Again, I'm so sorry for the experience you've had with our product, and I hope I can make things right again!
I’m doing the best I can!

Inappropriate?Thank you for your reply. Downloading the 2.3 beta resulted in the same error message. I was able to revive a previous database using Version 1.7, and will begin rebuilding on that version. I do not want a refund. I want the company to have sufficient resources to be able to produce a fully operational product.
My case number in FogBugz is 165131. Thanks again for any help. -
Inappropriate?Carol- Could you let me know which build you're using? To figure this out, go into your Applications folder, click on Delicious Library 2, and press command-i to get info for it. Next to "Version" it should say something like "2.3 (build xxxxxx)".
There's a slight chance what you have could be data corruption-- this is something that happens for reasons beyond our control, with every operating system and application. With the [literally] millions of things being processed on your computer at any given time, there's a margin of error, and if something goes wrong, it could mess up a file and make it unusable. This is why it's always important to keep a backup-- just incase something happens.
If you'd like, I could set up a dropbox for you to send us your library, to see if there's anything we could do about it. In most cases of data corruption, we aren't able to do much, but *sometimes* there's a chance we can untangle it. Let me know if you'd like to do that, and I can set it up for you!

Inappropriate?I accept that the problem is a corrupt data file. I was able to retrieve a prior version running 1.7, and it will allow me to make new entries, but it will not allow updates to the program. I have been trying to update to Ver. 2 and to the beta files, but updating returns the same error message. I am willing to start completely over, but don't know how to get a clean copy of the software.

Inappropriate? In order to delete your Delicious Library 2 data, you just have to go to this folder:
~/Library/Application Support
and delete the folder named "Delicious Library 2."
When next you launch DL2, it will upgrade your DL1.7 library items.
If you don't want to do that, from ~/Library/Application Support , delete the folder named "Delicious Library" before opening DL2. Then DL2 will ask if you want to start a new library or see the sample one.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Carol- In addition to what Fred said:
•Make sure Delicious Library 2 is NOT running when you go to delete the Application Support DL2 folder. If it's running, then it won't reset itself properly.
•Also delete the plist file, located at ~/Library/Preferences/com.delicious-monster.library2.plist while Delicious Library is not running.

Inappropriate?Thank you, deleting 2.2 worked. I now have Ver 2.2 running with my old data file. Should I load Beta 2.3 now? Also, should I rename my current file so if it crashes again, I can go back to my previously healthy file? I have daily backups, but can't seem to find any of my old files. Thanks again for your help.
-
Inappropriate? You don't necessarily need to bother with 2.3-- we mostly want people with bugs specifically fixed by the beta to run it. You can if you want, of course, but the non-beta version should be out any day now =)

Inappropriate?I was updating my iPhone Delicious LIbrary; during this my MacBook Pro auto-updated Adobe Reader to the latest version (9.2.0) simultaneously. The iPhone sync froze and I had to relaunch my Delicious Library laptop. Upon relaunch. Upon relaunching, the error I received was: The File "Delicious Library Items.delicouslibrary2" couldn't be opened. When I clicked the OK button, the next error states: No Document could be created.
Besides rebooting the system (currently running Mac OS 10.6.1), I cannot seem to find what is causing this, or how to fix it. I've searched your forums and found a similar issue, but the fix (downloading the 2.3 Beta) does not seem to work, either. When I clicked on the 2.3 Beta link it downloaded the app; when I tried to open the app, I got the error "Safari cannot open the file. Safari can't open the "Delicious Library 2.app" because no available application can open it.
Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks!
I’m frustrated and anxious
-
Inappropriate?James St. John- Try holding down shift while launching DL2. This will let you check for a corrupt database.
-
Inappropriate?Jessie, when doing this the "application quits unexpectedly"; I rebooted my laptop but the error persists. I am still unable to open the application or the library.
I’m further frustrated
-
Inappropriate?James- It sounds like the beta didn't download fully... We have a new beta out as of last night. Try again here: http://delicious-monster.com/download...

Thanks for the link; I downloaded it and it still quits unexpectedly. I gives me a very lengthy problem detail, which I can't decipher since it's all code. Do I need to remove the old version before I download the new one? I still have my library on my iPhone, which was current at the time of the application crash. If I reinstall the beta application on my laptop, am I able to take all the info from my phone library and bring it back in so I don't have to rescan the several thousand items I've already scanned? -
