echoing titles... echoing titles... echoing titles (when publishing)
I am wondering why the titles for my items appear redundantly in each item description when I publish to the web. I could understand if there was a main title and a subtitle or that the second listing would be in a smaller or less weighted font... but as it is my list looks like it has an echo:

Any thoughts?

To upgrade from version 1 to version 2, you should be able to just launch version 2 -- if you export and import you can run into troubles.
If you blow away your version two directory and launch version 2 again, it should upgrade everything from version 1 just fine, but you'll lose any changes you made in version 2. Do you have changes?

Inappropriate?Yipes!
There's something strange about your collection, I think... not sure... how'd you create that collection? -
Inappropriate?I originally created it in Delicious Library 1x using a converted CueCat and then imported each of the major components of my old library as text files in to DL2

Inappropriate? If it would help, I would be happy to send you an export of the database so you can see what the actual data looks like.
It does appear to be a data issue, rather than just an issue with the publishing template, as when I look at items in the list view, it actually gives me two items to "click to search" for each entry. Further, it shows up doubled in the iPod sync function.
When I look at editing the actual data in the program however I don't see anything that looks doubled, or anywhere to correct it.
Is there any way to do an export *just* of the UPC data and then have it auto-refresh from that? I poked around for a little in the export function... Any way to interact more directly *in the program* with the actual data? -

Because you decided to require this to run on Leopard I had to buy new hardware to run it on, so the version 1 is on a completely different machine that can't be upgraded to version 2, and yes I have made a few hundred changes since the upgrade.
I don't mind hard crunching the data by hand... I just need to be able to get *at* it... and I don't mind exporting to just UPC codes and having the system just repopulate the whole thing...
Heck I wouldn't have that much trouble just putting everything back in if its a lost cause... just would want to know if it *is* a lost cause or not. -
Inappropriate?Hmm. Ok, can you mail me your collection, so I can take a look at it? I'm at wjs at me.com.
I'll try to figure out what the corruption was and tell you how it might be fixed.

Figuring that you were busy after more than two weeks without hearing back regarding my e-mail to the address provided, I just went ahead and deleted all the crappy data that came from the import, and scanned everything back in - not the most efficient solution perhaps, but it took care of the problem. The backup file is still where the e-mail said it was if you are still interested in taking a look for some reason.
My guess is that somehow the data was structured so that the first line was present as a header, and ended up doubled that way... don't know for sure, but that at least seems plausible. -
Inappropriate?I have also experienced this problem with DL 2.0.4. When "exporting to another application", either as Excel or tab delimited text, I get the title repeated (double title, title twice) in it's field. This is a copied text from the Excell spreadsheet, each line is from a cell. Note how the last line title is repeated:

For some reason it has only happened with titles from a recent import from DL 1. A prior import had no problem. I have to solve this soon. :-) -

I installed DL 2 it found the earlier library and imported that, without problem.
For my particular needs, I add books to my collection using DL 1. I export from DL1 "Library Text Export.txt" and import that to DL2 to add new books. I notice that in the exported .txt file, the title is repeated. When importing the .txt file to DL2, and in turn exporting that "to another application", I get the repeating titles.
Whew! I hope you followed that. -
Inappropriate?Please advise.

Inappropriate? Are you unable to enter new books into DL2 directly?
-
Inappropriate?I am able, but I haven't done it that way. I created a second library of books that I want to order for our university library in DL1. I need to import these into DL2, to use it's export functions when requesting new books from my library.
DL2 is a fabulous tool, however, (and this may sound strange) I also need the ability to track books that I'm planning to buy or order, and books that our library has, but I want to read.
In summary: I want to use DL for ALL books of interest to me: Books I own, some books in my university library, and books I want to buy.
Crazy but true. (An easier way, would be much appreciated.)

Is there any reason that you couldn't do this, using existing fields, in DL2 entirely? One would think that smart shelves could be set up to keep things straight, without needing to resort to multiple versions of DL on your computer.
Another option might be to create a separate library on a different sign-in account for your mac. My understanding is that you can have as many independent DL2 libraries as one wants, the limitation that it is one user account per DL2 library. It would involve switching between accounts on your mac, but it might be better than trying to struggle with importing from DL1 to DL2.
In the end the work around that *I* found was to delete all of the items I had imported from DL1 and re-scan them in on DL2. Since I think the problem is on the DL1 side of the equation, I am not sure that we are going to Will interested in going back to fix export code in the old system for us...

Inappropriate?A wishlist feature might be fun in the app... until then, there's always the amazon wishlist!
-
Inappropriate?Hi Algor,
I thought about different sign-in, but that would be inconvenient. I have been using and experimenting with "smart shelves" thing. That works to an extent. So I can't complain.
If DL2 had the possibility of creating additional "libraries", such as a second "Books Bla..." library, then upon import, I would not confuse those books, with my own "Books" collection. The point being, that with it's new export functionality DL2 is a very useful way of cataloguing all books of interest and using them in my academic work.
Thanks for your work around.
Jessiechar,
Hmmm, "Wish list feature" I dig :-)
Especially as Amazon wishlist, which I use, is somewhat limited.
