How can I learn which shelves my item is on?
Is there a way to see which shelf(ves) an item is associated with? If I've arranged my shelves to match my physical shelves, I'd like to know where the item is in my home. I'm new, so I may just have missed it, but I did not find this answered in the forum so far.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Inappropriate? The only way I know is to search for the item, then click each shelf it might be on. If it's on the shelf, it'll show up.
Have you tried using the Location field? That way you could set up smart shelves and also each item would have its location noted in the details. The downside of this way is that you can't manually arrange items on smart shelves (very easily). -
Inappropriate?the corollary to this is a better solution IMHO
set you locations to be specific to the physical shelf, say "Study - BC1 - Shelf1"
then you can create smart shelves for all the items where the location contains "Study", and also smart shelves for each physical shelf or Bookcase.
Since the location of the item is part of the item visible fields, you will always know where your items are.

Inappropriate? Thanks very much Fred and Stu for the helpful info. I'll probably try to use the location field as suggested. It will be a lot of data entry, but I can see the advantages in flexibility. Thanks again!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Actually, it should be pretty easy to enter the locations...since you already have everything sorted on regular shelves, just go to a shelf, select all the items, enter edit mode, and fill in the location. :} Repeat with the next shelf and you'll be done in no time!
(Stu! You get the points this time, but I'll get you next time!)
