How to track stuff you've borrowed
I've come up with an idea for tracking stuff I've borrowed. I add myself to the library as a borrower. Then I add the item I borrowed to the library and check it out with myself as a borrower. I have also added a smart shelf of all items with myself as a borrower so I can see all the stuff I've borrowed at a glance.

Inappropriate? The solution I designed was you just subscribe to your friend's library, then simply drag her items to your "LIBRARY" shelf. Done and done!
I’m happy

Inappropriate? What if my friend doesn't use Delicious Library? Shocking I know.
-
Inappropriate? You could always create the item in your library and change the Owner field in details.
I’m happy

this is one of the best points
-
Then add a smart shelf to all items where you are not the owner or not blank -
Inappropriate?Get new friends?
No, then you can come up with any workaround you like. There's also an "owner" field in the database, if you want to use that. -
Inappropriate?I've also done this for books I check out from the school library. It would be great if the program had an option so that say I could add "University Library" as a friend, and enter books that I've borrowed from their library. But I have utilized the "owner" field and created a smart shelf of books that do not belong to me. The due date option makes it easy for me too keep up with due dates, I'm notorious for fines.
I’m hoping that we can create our friend's libraries as opposed to being hemmed in by who owns the program.
-
Inappropriate?Still not ideal, since editing the owner field is cumbersome.
We really need to get a 'lending from' feature. Unfortunately this thread is a year old and I see no improvement.
I’m a bit frustrated
-
Inappropriate? The "smart library with owner = blank" doesn't work, either. It puts everything in there still
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Totally confused. Where is the borrower tab thing? I don't see it anywhere in my library?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? There's not a tab called "Borrower" How borrowing works - there's a "Friends" area on the left hand side, under your library, shelves, etc. Click on the little plus sign down below, on the lower left and you'll have the choice of adding a shelf, smart shelf, or a friend. Choose "Friend" and then add your own entry from your address book.
Now you can add an item to your library and then drag n drop it to yourself to loan the item to yourself. I've also set up a Smart Shelf that will showed all items lent to me. On top of this, you can set a due date for the item and Delicious Library will show you items that are overdue. I believe there is also an option to show that info in iCal.
I’m happy

I got how to add item to my library via create me as friend and then drag book to me as friend. GREAT solution! But HOW do you set up a smart shelf for all items lent to me??
I did try to set up smart shelf by OWNER field. Could not get this to work. I set up rules of If owner not XXX(my name), but this brought nothing. Then I added rule IF not blank, again nothing. HELP on smart shelf needed! -
Mary,
Sorry if I wasn't clear. You can set up a smart shelf where Borrower is "Mary H" The name will have to exactly match your name as it appears in the "Friends" area. -
Inappropriate?Excellent. I used this to register a book I'd borrowed and found a quicker way by accident. I was focussed on my smart shelf and scanned the book and it went straight in as loaned to me - no need to drag & drop.
I’m thrilled, this will be very useful as I have borrowed a huge pile of my partner's books
-
First we create a smart shelf and then select that shelf and THEN scanning item takes it directly TO that shelf??
Still needing help on HOW to set up this smart shelf for items I have borrowed. -
Inappropriate? Was searching for these workarounds, thanks everyone,
Prashant.
