howto scan correctly with isight?
I want to test dl2 to scan a few dvds or books (both in german) with my isight camera in my mbp, but it doesn ́t work. Can you quickly describe how to scan the bar codes correctly? Must the enviroment be lighter or darker? Which signs need the scanner?

Inappropriate?I had problems at first with iSight when using just one table lamp (at night) for illumination. Moved the computer so a window (daylight) is behind it and iSight works much better. Better light = 10X better scanning.

Inappropriate?Yes, with a bright overhead light, it works much better. I had my MacBookPro in a dim room and was having problems, turned on the overhead lights and scanning/importing was snappy.

Inappropriate? You definitely need plenty of light and as little glare as possible. Also, tilting the item so you get a different angle on the barcode will sometimes work for things that just don't want to scan.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? This might sound silly, but removing the cellophane wrapper from DVDs helps immensely (for the above reasons).

Inappropriate? We have a retail store, so can't unwrap all products for sale.

Inappropriate? One more thing - I'm not happy at all with the QueCat scanner. It often brings up correct numbers but the program doesn't want to find or add to library. iSight works almost every time.

Inappropriate? We wrote the program to work with the iSight and the Microvision bluetooth scanners, so those two are going to work better than all the rest. We try to support the CueCat the best we can, but the iSight will always be a higher priority.

Inappropriate?Moving the product in really close to the camera and then slowly pulling out worked for me. Though, now that it's getting the number, it's not able to find any info! :)
I’m amused

Inappropriate?I have tried scanning using the iSight of my Macbook in vain. I've tried everything. Good light, moving the bar code slowly, close, far... no luck so far. :-(
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Doesn't work with a Logitech Tessar with a superb Carl Zeiss lense, no matter how much light.
I’m sad.

Inappropriate?I have a 24" iMac and the scanning with iSight is a near impossibility. I cannot hold the book/dvd/whatever to be scanned close enough because of the design of the desk where the Mac is. If it scanned with the item upside down (when the bar code will be in reverse), it may have been a little easier. But, I am not sure if it is even supported!
When are they going to simply integrate with a much simpler scanner like 'Red Laser' on iPhone and make it a LOT simpler to use...

Inappropriate? One trick I've used on my macbook is to reduce the screen brightness. For things that are shiny (like cellophane), the screen's backlight can cause glare that interferes with the scanning.
The scanner does work for upside down barcodes.
