iPhone App issue: There was a communications hiccup...
I repeatedly keep getting this error when trying to sync with my iPhone. "There was a communications hiccup while sending your library to the iPhone..." It packs the library fine, but when it goes to upload it fails, every time. I have 2 shelves. Over 1000 movies and over 4000 albums. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Doren

Inappropriate?Hmm... I tested the app with a ~10K item library and it seemed to be fine. Is your iPhone going to sleep before the sync is over?
-
Inappropriate?Nope, not going to sleep. It fails at about 10% upload every time. I've even tried the shelves independently and the exact same thing happens.
I’m still frustated

Can I ask the following questions, might help to work out where things are failing:
1) are you syncing over wi-fi or just via USB cable?
I had some issue with syncing over Wi-Fi until I tried USB. I had to forget all the iPhones in the app, and make the iPhone app forget its link to my machine and re-pair then synced with USB
2) if you are using USB, is your USB cable plugged direct into your mac, or do you have a USB hub in the mix?
If the latter can I suggest trying the former.
3) Careful with this one. If you make a backup of your library to a new location, then delete the library so when you relaunch DL2, it will create a blank library for you. Scan a few items then try to sync, see if you get the same error. (Just close DL2 and copy the library back to restore it)

Inappropriate?1) i have tried both wi-fi and usb - both fail.
2) i have tried both too via hub and direct - both fail.
3) won't do this yet because of new info listed below.
i attempted to sync just one shelf, movies, and it worked fine. i then attempted to sync the music shelf and it worked fine. so then i went to sync both and once again it failed.
I’m just a sweet trans...

Inappropriate? There were bound to be some kinks in 1.0... We are working on some syncing issues that have to do with 3.0, and will hopefully be able to resolve this. I might need to get your library from you to test with at some point...
-
Inappropriate?sure. i just want this to work. it would be incredible to be able to have a backup record of all my stuff on my iphone. please fix this. i would be glad to send u my database if need be. just lemme know what to do. thanx again. will someone let all of us know once it's fixed?
I’m waiting......
-
Inappropriate? If you could zip up your library and send it to me, that would be awesome. My email address is jessie [at] delicious-monster [dot] com. If your library is too big to send via email, you could always upload it to a server (or my public idisk). Just let me know.
Another thing I'd recommend trying is setting up a computer to computer network from your machine. Get the iPhone on that, and try syncing it. There might be something interfering with your wifi network.
-
Inappropriate?my database is 443.8MB - i'm pretty sure i've already tried computer to computer method too, but could u explain a little more to ensure i have done what you're describing please?
-
Inappropriate?any more updates on this? it's incredibly frustrating to have a company release a new feature/app for a product, to only have it not work properly. please help us....
I’m saddened......
-
Inappropriate?Sorry-- ever since 2.1 came out we have been completely swamped with support! I am getting to everything as fast as I can, and I appreciate your patience with this.
To create a computer-to-computer network, go into the airport menu and select the option to "Create a Network". You can name it whatever you want.
When your iPhone asks you which wifi network to connect to, select the one you just created. Then try the syncing again.
-
Inappropriate?thank you for the additional info and help, but still no go......
I’m getting silly......
-
Inappropriate?I have same problems, can't synchronize since I have iphone 3.0
-
Inappropriate?I have the exact same problem. I had it working fine with my 3G with 3.0, installed on my new 3GS and not so much. About 10% of the way into downloading after packing it fails. This happens on both USB and WIFI.
-
Inappropriate?that's it, exact same thing.....
-
I was having the same sync issues with my iPhone 3G S and I turned off bluetooth and it worked. Why is that? -
Inappropriate?Thanks Jessie.
Synchro works when I turn off bluetooth.
Will you fix this bug, or we'll always have to do it ?
Thanks
-
Inappropriate?i wish i had your luck! it still didn't fix it for me. how many shelves do u have? and how many items in each shelf? thanx!
I’m even more confused....
-
Inappropriate?3 shelves ( beween 1200 and 2000 items by shelve).
I Try three times each time I had a shelve. hope it's fix and it wasn't a stroke of luck -
Inappropriate?thanx. i have over 4000 music. ugh....... i also wish the app had the ability to add an item. i'll wish for it to work first before i start making suggestions. hehehe
-
Inappropriate? How about not syncing the iTunes shelves? I couldn't get it to sync before I only selected the physical shelves.
-
Inappropriate?i have gotten it to work with each shelf individually, but i want both my movies and music on the phone. i was planning on using this a backup of all my stuff in the worse case of my home was ever damaged and i lost that stuff. i don't even want to think of the tens of thousands of dollars i have just invested in that stuff.....i have made pdf versions and put in my safe and also put them online, but i would also like them on my iPhone.
I’m happy that lunch time is coming!

Inappropriate? The bluetooth thing is a known bug on Apple's side (I posted a link to it in another forum thread). It's a bug we've filed with Apple, so unfortunately it's out of our hands =(
The issue is that bluetooth works on the same frequency as 802.11b/g on the iPhone, so it ends up interfering with bonjour. Lame, but that's the way it works right now.
-
Inappropriate?well, that's great, but it doesn't solve my problem. it still doesn't work even with bluetooth off. now what???
I’m sad again...
-
Inappropriate?xcalibr- So just to be clear, you did the computer-to-computer network thing and the turning bluetooth off thing?
It might me nice if I could get your library so that I could test this out on another computer (unless you have another computer you'd be able to test with too). There are multiple factors at play; iPhone software and hardware, computer software and hardware, and the wireless network. I'd like to try and isolate the issue...
If we could perhaps make this into a case in our bug tracking system that would be great. If you can, email us at support [at] delicious-monster [dot] com and when you get a case number, post it on here. We have a ton of emails and forum questions, but I'll try and look into the case more once it's in "the system".
-
Inappropriate?Yup, it's bluetooth, alright. As soon as I turned it off, DL synced.
Here's what I saw: about half way thru syncing, my phone dropped wifi completely (went back to Edge symbol). I confirmed on my Airport Base Stn that the phone was dropped from the wifi network.
Turning off the BT radio on the phone allowed DL to sync without issue.
Let's hope the engineers at Apple get this fixed soon! :) -
Inappropriate?i'm an iphone developer so i'm privy to the new 3.1 beta, which i upgraded to tonight and after doing so, i was finally able to sync successfully. not sure what this new version addressed, but thankfully it has finally solved my problem. my only hope is that whatever they did to their OS they keep intact. they are notorious for omitting code for the final GM's. but for now woohoo!!!!!
I’m happy once agin!

Inappropriate?xcalibr- YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YESSSS!!! Okay sorry. I took a break from reading the 3.1 release notes to check up on GetSatisfaction, so it's AWESOME to hear that something got fixed in the update =)
-
Inappropriate?i agree! ;) thanx!!!!!!!

Inappropriate?damn i wish I had my iPhones in the dev group (still no where near finishing my app - still learning OC)
meh! -
Inappropriate?even tho i was excited that it finally sync'd, just to be clear it only worked after i installed the 3.1 beta and ALSO shut off bluetooth. but it would not work at all with 3.0 for me. but as to why you have to.......
-
Inappropriate?buggered if I know, I just know the following:
1) you can't sync over cable (c'mon who thought of that idea!)
2) bluetooth has been banjaxed by Apple
3) Wi-Fi is flaky as hell
The hiccough message seems to be more prevalent if you start sync from DL2, if you sync from the iPhone, you don't get any message at all when it fails, it just keeps saying "Packing up Library" on the iPhone -
Inappropriate?I am having the iPhone sync issue only when any of my iTunes libraries are checked. Works fine with my DL Books, Movies, Music & Videogames. Hope when 3.1 comes out they will all work.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate? My iPhone 3Gs 3.0.1 is also failing to sync 9 times out of 10.
-
Inappropriate?Brian- Try this for me:
1) Turn bluetooth on your iPhone OFF
2) Create a computer-to-computer network. To do this, go into the wifi menu on your Mac and select the option to "Create Network". This will prompt you you enter a name and password for the new network. Once you've done this, connect your iPhone and computer to the network, and try syncing again.
-
Inappropriate? My mac doesn't have wifi - it's hard-wired to a timecapsule which runs the wifi network. The only way i've been able to consistently get delicious to sync is to switch the iphone back to the sample library, then switch it back to my library forcing a complete re-sync - and even then it only works if delicious is the only app running. If it runs in the background it will always fail.
-
Inappropriate?Hmmm.. well the way it is meant to work is through bonjour from a computer's wifi-- unfortunately we don't support any other way.
-
Inappropriate?gaudeamus igitur (let us rejoice therefore!) thats latin for all you proles
iPhone OS 3.1 fixes all my sync issues, it took a good long while (about 10 minutes to pack and sync) but it did it.
I’m freaky deaky
