Juicy Library iPhone app?
Has anyone seen Juicy Library for the iPhone? Is it in any way related? Or just a knock-off?

I should have looked here first. I bought it thinking it belonged with DL - stupid me, I should have done my homework first and read all the pertinent poop here first. So, how can they do such a similar thing and not get taken down. -
Well...it provides capabilities that Delicious Monster doesn't...I want to scan my DVD barcodes with my iPhone, build a portable database so that when i'm out shopping I know if I'm about to duplicate purchase a DVD I already own (I have hundreds). I don't think that Delicious Monster does that...so how is it a ripoff?? -
@Carl As far as I can tell, the only feature that is unique to JL is the option to scan from the iPhone. The rest of the functions, aesthetic, and name, are clearly ripped off from Delicious Library. -
@Noah - I see that it exports to an iPhone...nice. However, if I own an iPhone, why would I buy a scanner? Also, with the ability to scan from the iPhone, I wouldn't need to buy a Mac in order to have the functionality...Delicious is only for Macs. So, for me to use the functionality, I'd have to buy a Mac and either another webcam or a scanner. Instead, I can buy the Juicy Library app, which obviously provides significant things that Delicious doesn't...otherwise I'd happily buy Delicious. So, on one hand, I can see your point, but considering the functionality I'm looking for that isn't provided by Delicious but is provided by Juicy, seems like there's enough difference. There are, of course, other apps out there that scan barcodes and build collection databases (https://www.collectorz.com)...no idea who was 'first'... -
@Carl Yes, if you don't have a Mac, DL is less appealing and JL, derivative though it is, is probably the better choice.
If you do have a Mac, you can scan with the built-in webcam; no need to buy anything else. -
@Noah - no comment about the other apps with similar functionality that run on Macs? Looks like Collectorz has been around since 2000...how close does the functionality need to be before it becomes a 'ripoff' or 'derivative'? Or is Juicy a ripoff because it uses the word Library? Just trying to understand the sentiment... -
@Carl DL has a very distinctive look and feel that I've not seen anywhere else, except for JL. Collectorz has a very different look and feel, as do Library thing, and other applications with related functions.
When you combine the extreme similarity of function and aesthetic and the very similar name, it becomes imitation, not evolution. You'll note that they actually have a disclaimer on their web site: "Please note that Juicy Library is not related to any other mac software." I suspect this would be unnecessary if there weren't so many similarities. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Jessie. Good to know. I won't be buying it.
