Long titles -- how to see?
Long titles -- how to see?
Am I missing something? I have lots of books with titles that start out the same (e.g., same title, different edition). In neither the Book Title view nor the Book Info(!) can I see more than a starting portion of the title -- the rest is elided with ellipses (...) I can understand this in the Title view, but in Book Info?
If there isn't a preference or setting for this somewhere, there should be.
TIA,
Mike W

Inappropriate? The same problem persists when printing too-while the bottom half of the text box, which could have contained the rest of the title is empty!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Mike W- Exactly how long is this title? Can you send me the ISBN or title of the item, so I can take a look on my machine?
I’m curious
-
Inappropriate?Sure, I can give you a bunch of samples (see below). But no matter what I give you, there's bound to be a longer one :-) What I guess I'm asking for is:
1. More room for the title in the generic display, up to some reasonable size.
2. A way to see an arbitrarily long title by user action, i.e., clicking on the title.
One case where this causes a problem is where there are multiple versions of a book, differentiated by a subtitle or edition number.
Thanks for looking into this,
Mike

Inappropriate?Mike-- so I tested it out on my machine, and here's what I found:
•The entire title does show up in the details (as posted below
•The title eventually gets cut off when in list view
So basically, I think what would need to happen is for us to make the title field infinitely larger to accommodate longer titles. However, I could see this becoming inconvenient too, when trying to reference a book (especially of the majority of the titles are not this long).
Something that could prove to be an effective workaround for you is to make use of the subtitles field in details, or the no. in series field. This way, when your long-titled series are displayed in the list view, you'd have other categories which will indicate which one you're looking at.
Nonetheless, I will make note of the size restraints to our engineer Wil to see if there's anything he can do about it.

Inappropriate?Whoops! Didn't make it clear that I'm talking about your iPhone app (where, when I'm out in the field, looking around a used book sale, and trying to determine whether or not I have a more recent version of a particular book, this problem is particularly frustrating.)
Should we start another thread or tag this one somehow?
Mike -
Inappropriate?Mike Wirth- Ahh, that makes things a little more complicated. Since Amazon made us take the iPhone app off the store, we aren't able to provide updates for it anymore. So... though it's something that would be nice to fix, there's no way we'd be able to get the update to you. Sorry about that =\

Inappropriate? So is there anything that can be done about printing off the library? The subtitles thing wont work for me. I just want to print off the titles.
I’m still frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Robert- Try exporting your library as a text file and then printing. That should allow you to see the entire title.
