req: comic book category
How about a comic book category? Most comic book collection apps are pretty bad, Windows only, and the few I tried are broken on Vista64. Since comic book libraries are often massive, using Delicious and its barcode scanner to capture a collection would be ideal.

Unfortunately if it's mainly comics you want to catalogue, we probably aren't the app you want. We use Amazon exclusively to lookup data, and sadly Amazon is a poor database as far as comics are concerned. Also, most comics lack the unique barcodes required for the scanning feature--they often all have the same number making it impossible to differentiate between the episodes. Once they start using unique numbers and Amazon has them, we'll support them.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Has anyone at DL contacted Diamond Comic Distributors about collaborating on this? When I worked in comic book retail we were supplied with a booklet from Diamond containing most of the barcodes for new releases for use with POS systems. Whattya think?

Inappropriate?ShugMonkey: it's always good to hear suggestions of databases to use with Delicious Library. It's probably nothing we can implement in the near future because of how much work we have to do on the current version. Maybe some day we can have a better way of cataloging people's wine, comic book, and shoe collections =)

Inappropriate?I really don't know if this is possible as I have not read the API docs (so I'm being real lazy here) but can Delicious Library 2's applescript support let you write something to simplify this? Perhaps looking up barcode data generically on another site then augmenting with user input? I'd dearly love to to get my modest collection into DL2 so I can sell what I don't need with ease. Let me know! ;-)

I’m curious and giddy.

Inappropriate? No offense Terry, but I think you are relying on Amazon too much. Comic books are the PERFECT item for a program such as DL. Someone there should definitely be looking into this. The more people's needs you meet, the more copies you sell and the more money you make. Win win for everyone!

Inappropriate?I've started getting into DL, but the lack of comic book support is starting to be annoying.
I really like the look and feel of DL, but I'm already thinking some of the alternatives would suit me better, only because of comic book support.
I’m wondering if I'll stick with DL

Inappropriate?Even if you can't read the barcodes, it would still be useful to create bookshelves of items that are collectable, since we can add our own jpgs.
Don't think of it as an added chore but as a market opportunity.

Inappropriate?I've been using DL2 to catalog my comic books for a while and while it does not recognize the barcodes, Amazon's database does a pretty good job of filling in the details. That being said, I would like to see a little more love for comics in DL2.
