Return of the 'Recently Added' shelf?
Hi, what are the chances of having a return of the 'Recently Added' shelf? I found it incredibly useful in DL1, to identify which items didn't get recognised properly, or picked up the wrong artwork (or not at all) - now if I scan in half a dozen items at a time I then have to search the library for them one by one to check on them. Please, please consider bringing 'Recently Added' back. :o)

No promises, but we're thinking about making it so you can create a Smart Shelf that sorts by a set amount of time. For example, you could have a smart shelf that was for all the items you added in the last hour, or day, or two weeks, etc. However, because the contents of this type of shelf would have to be constantly updated, I'm not sure how it would work as far as slowing down the entire app.
I’m thinking about it

Inappropriate? If you sort the library by Creation Date you can see the most recent added items. I added the column to the list view so I can quickly toggle from cover to list view and then click on column name to sort
I’m happy

Ahh, that's handy - thank you. I hadn't noticed the little column editor icon (in list view) and the sort bar (in cover view). That'll help a great deal. :o) -

Thanks Terry. To be fair, whilst being able to set the time frame would be kinda handy, I was perfectly happy with the 'Recently Added' shelf showing simply the last 'x' number of items (30, was it?). Ideally I'd like it to be more like the last 50 or 100 items, but I thought that it worked very well in DL1 as it was. -
Agree with Cerise that it would be nice to have the option to create Recently Added smart shelf that is based off of time or number of items. -
Inappropriate?I would love to have this back - it's a great way to keep an eye on whether everything is scanning properly when you're batch scanning.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? If you do what MDNZ mentioned then it works exactly like the recently added shelf that DL1 was famous for. I actually sort my entire library this way and DL2 sorts each of my book, DVD, and music folders differently. Instead of sorting by column view I use the default view that DL2 creates and just sort by Creation Date.
You can also do something similar by creating a smart shelf that sorts by some date in the far future, like 2010 and some near date, like 1-1-2008, but it is simply easier to sort you entire collection by creation date.
I was looking for this feature in DL1 and a few folks posed this question on the macnn message board, but no one answered till someone mentioned the creation date sort method. Give it a try it totally works.

Inappropriate? The work around for sorting by creation date does work. It took me an eternity to figure out HOW though... in the List view, I had to right-click the columns in the actual view and then i could add "Created Date" as a column. I could not find this anywhere else.
I’m reluctant

Inappropriate?Sorting by creation date is a workaround, but I wouldn't consider this an 'implemented' feature since the company answer is 'we're thinking about it.' I'm not sure how a recently added smart shelf would slow the app down any more than any other smart shelves, but I think in general it's a feature that's useful and expected based other database-type programs such as iTunes and MacGourmet. Thanks for a great product! My scanner arrived tonight, and I love it much more than using the iSight!
I’m pleased

Inappropriate?I have to agree with those who advocate the return of the Recent Imports Shelf. With a single click on the icon, you could see just the most recent imported items. The sort by creation date is more laborious as you have to first choose sort by creation and then now to past. And if you switch from the entire Library to just the 'Books' or 'Music' shelf, you have to start all over again.
Also, if you have hundreds of items, it will often scroll down to the middle of the collection, meaning you have to scroll up (or down) for a bit until you get to the most recent items.
The Recent Imports shelf was delightfully simple.
I’m sad

Yes, but again only if you select 'sort by creation date' in the sort option. It would be nice if you could leave your Library sorted by title and/or artist and have a separate easily-accessible recent imports shelf on the side. -
I didn't see your comment above and I see what your saying. It works for me so I have never needed that functionality but it should be part of the app since it worked so well in DL1 -

Inappropriate?I liked the Recently Added shelf too. I'd like to see it come back. I'm not especially upset about it though.
-
Inappropriate? While the sort by creation date is a reasonable workaround for this, a useful addition would be to add a smart 'last import' shelf. This mirrors the functionality of other OS X application such as iTunes and iPhoto, and would be helpful when reviewing an import.
-
Inappropriate? If the point is to be able to return to items that might have a problem (wrong artwork, whatever), then a recently added shelf isn't the solution. Better would be the ability to tag any new item in some way -- a flag that says "needs attention", or even something more specific ("wrong art" etc). Then a smart shelf would bring all these items up, no matter when they were added.
-
Inappropriate?I used to use the Recently added shelf after mass scanning items to clean up the data and add better cover art. A Smart shelf would be the best way of getting this done IMHO.

Inappropriate?Yes, but after mass scanning a "recently added" shelf would have, well, a mass of items. So finding only those that need attention would be hard. Better if one could tag the items that need attention, and then have a smart shelf for them. That way it would also catch things you scanned a long time ago and for whatever reason haven't cleaned up yet.
-
Inappropriate?I've found that without a recently added shelf, there's no point to the fancy Scan In animation...there's too much stuff in the library window to see it.
Nor is there a "here's a blank to let you know your barcode scanner scanned and we're searching for it now" to let you know to stop swiping.
I’m frustrated
