Text-Only Version of Your Library for the iPhone
The other day I was at my favorite used DVD store and I wanted to check to see if I owned a particular movie before buying it (I have enough that I forget sometimes). However, trying to access my library via iPhone kept making Safari crash out. What I'd really love is a text-only listing of what I have for quick access.
Is this something that would be possible at some point?

Inappropriate?Right now we don't have any built-in way of making a text-only iPhone page. If it were me and I wanted an immediate workaround solution, you could always export your library as a text list and e-mail it to yourself... I will think of a better workaround solution for you in the meantime.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try that for now. -
Inappropriate?Export as PDF and use Air Sharing to get it to the iPhone.

Inappropriate?...or sync an iPod to DL and then transfer the resulting files to your iPhone...
-
Inappropriate?"transfer the resulting files to your iPhone" What is your suggestion for storing that file on an iPhone?
-
Inappropriate? Not having an iPhone I cannot speak with authority, but I was of the impression that one could store and access text files using an iPhone. If that is in error, then apologies all around, but it would seem to be a fairly major downgrade from an iPod if it didn't have that basic ability.
Since in order to sync an iPod with DL, one must have their iPod behave like a removable drive, getting files off of it and relocating them would be a very minimal problem, and if by no other means than as an e-mail attachment, one might view those documents with a web enabled phone rather easily I think... -
Inappropriate?iPhones do not mount as a removable drive, as iPods do. I would imagine that part of this is to keep the file structure "safe", as the file system of a cell phone is much more crucial than that of a music player (not to mention AT&T's role in the deal).
Having said this, it is unfortunate that you can't manually add a text document to the iPhone, but I would not exactly consider this to be a "major downgrade" considering everything an iPod *can't* do. -
Actually there are several softwares that allow one to transfer files to the iPhone... Pretty basic stuff... -
Inappropriate?Well, I for one would find it a major downgrade... but then I am also fully aware that I am not the target audience either.
Perhaps putting a text file at google documents would be an option that could be employed to view text document on an iPhone? -
Inappropriate?I'm not sure many others think of the iPhone as a major downgrade, considering how many other features it has. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion!

Inappropriate? So a user wrote to me saying he used this method to get a DL2 onto his iPod Touch. I haven't tested it, and I know nothing about the third-party application (and we are in no way responsible for anything that may result from following these steps). But if anyone wants to try it, I thought I'd post it.
"...found this really great app in the iTunes store. It
allows for copying of files to and from iPhone and Ipod Touch called
Files (by Olive Toast).
I exported my Delicious library into a folder on my desktop for
publishing - all HTML files, links etc. Then used the Files app to
copy the folder to iPod Touch.
I can now open the index file in my exported library and it displays
the contents of my library - very cool. Next I am going to export the
library to a text list so it is faster for searching.
Here is a link to the software site. http://www.olivetoast.com/files"

Inappropriate?Files seems very similar to the Air Sharing application I mentioned above, but Air Sharing is free.
