Why no "Serial" column in list view?
I need to keep track of the serial numbers for all my gadgets. I thought this program would be great for that because there is a "Serial" field in the Details pane. But when I'm in list view, "Serial" is not among the columns I can add or sort by, so it's impossible for me to tell which items still need their serial numbers entered.
Can you please add "Serial" to the columns choices? It seems like an oversight that it was omitted.

I just checked, and it looks like the Serial Number field isn't available for both books and apparel, but is for everything else. I also see what you're saying about it not being available as a column in List View. If we added it to Books and Apparel and as an column option in List View, that would solve your problem?

Inappropriate? Also, if there's anything I can do (such as edit a file within the package) to add this feature myself so I don't have to wait for another version release, I'd love to know.
-
Inappropriate? We don't currently have sort by serial number, because generally different products' serial numbers are different and the "sorting" would appear to be kind of random anyway. I can talk to our engineer about getting this feature implemented, but (depending on how many serialized items you have) it may be faster to manually enter in the serial numbers.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply, but maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't really need to be able to *sort* by serial numbers (which would be meaningless). I just want to be able to *see* them in the list view.
I'm trying to use the program to keep track of my belongings for insurance purposes, and having the serial number for every item is necessary for that. It would be immensely useful to be able to list all my items and see their serial numbers in list view. This way I know that I have entered the serial for every item, and if I need to make an insurance claim it lets me see all my serial numbers at a glance instead of needing to drill down to each item.
As a workaround for now I can export to an Excel file with "Serial Number" as a spreadsheet column, but it would be simpler if I could view it all within one program.
Is there an xml file somewhere within the package that I can manually tweak to add "serial" as a list view column? Or do I need to wait for another version release (if you decide to add this feature)?
I’m still frustrated but appreciating the response

Inappropriate?"...it looks like the Serial Number field isn't available for both books and apparel, but is for everything else."
Actually, I don't think the field is available for new gadgets (although it's there for gadgets I add via search). Can you double-check that?
"If we added it to Books and Apparel and as an column option in List View, that would solve your problem?"
Absolutely! Any estimate for a timeline when that can happen?
I’m excited

Inappropriate? No promises, as it's ultimately up to Wil, but I'll see what I can do to get it into 2.1 which should be out pretty soon.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? Also, the field _is_ there for me when I add a blank gadget, or add a gadget from a title search, so I think it's just for the other two collections it's missing. If you can reproduce the lack of field in the Gadgets collection, let me know how so we can fix that as well.

Inappropriate?I have to say that I have this problem too. MAJOR FLAW in Delicious. This software is to keep track of inventory, yet neglected to include serial numbers in the detailed list view. Detailed list view has the ability to add every detail, BUT serial numbers. What information do you think is needed when my insurance company wants a list of items that I want insured??? SERIAL NUMBERS, DESCRIPTIONS, AND REPLACEMENT VALUE!! Gesh. This is horrible. Guess I'll manually enter all of the serial numbers. Thanks a lot useless software.
TWO THUMBS DOWN (if I had a third thumb, it would be down as well)
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?@Ha
Are you looking for the serial number that's unique to each item, or you talking about the product number--which would be the same for all of the same item?
Are there barcodes that go along with the serial numbers, or just numbers and letters? -
Inappropriate?I'm referring to serial numbers that are unique to each item. For example, my laptop, my camera, and my camera lens all have different serial numbers.
-
Inappropriate?Ha- We do give you the ability to add the serial numbers in for gadgets. They have to be manually entered in because the serials are unique to the device you have; they have to be manually entered in since they won't scan in with the barcode.
The reason we don't have it as a list item in the details view is partially because the purpose of the categories in the list view is for sorting. Since serial numbers are basically random sets of numbers and letters, there really is no order to them (especially between different kinds of devices). The serial number, description, and value are still all listed in the details panel.
In the event that a list ever needs to be produced for an insurance company, you're able to save your library as something like a spreadsheet file, including all of the information you choose to be on it (this includes serial #, description, condition, etc).
I'm sorry that our software doesn't readily do what you want it to do, but I hope these workarounds are helpful.

Inappropriate?I just discovered this software yesterday, downloaded the trial and bought it shortly after. This is a GREAT program! I too am using this for a home inventory record and agree that the serial # in list view would be very helpful.
I’m content.

Inappropriate?Oke here is another one in favor of a serial number listing.
I use this program to track my DVD collection.
All my dvd's are in a filing cabinet with numbered files. So to find back a DVD in they are labeled in the library with that number.
When I look op the DVD in delicious library the serial no will tell me where to find the DVD in the filing cabinet.
It contains 600 plus DVD's and the serial no listing would be very handy.
Also in the upcoming I-phone app because then I can select a movie in the iphone app and find it in my filing cabinet, without the neccesaty to start my computer.
Best regards,
Jelger
